[ Home's only ever been a person to Kunsel. Wherever Zack is, that's home. And when Zack isn't around, Kunsel's cut adrift without anywhere to go. Kunsel's entire body trembles with exertion as he tries to catch his breath, aware that Isen's stopped to study him. Neither of them want to be doing this, it seems, but Kunsel can't just give in. Not here. For him, his entire world is at stake. And it makes him a selfish bastard because he knows what Isen's been through, knows that this is Isen's home that's been burned to the ground, but--

Kunsel's never calculated the science of dying of a broken heart, but he knows if he lost Zack again, Hojo could probably do a case study on him. There's no describing that kind of pain, that kind of overwhelming sense of loss.

Zack Fair - SOLDIER 1st Class: Killed in action.

Tell me they're lying.

It's just a routine inspection.

Where are you?

Two samples escaped Nibelheim-- That's you, right?

I'll always be waiting for you to come back.

Just make it back alive, buddy. Promise me.

Everything'll be okay, Zack. I'll take care of you.

Kunsel chokes on his breath, teeth clenching hard as he tightens his grip on his sword. He can't break any more promises. He can't leave Zack alone. Even if it destroys him in the end, he has to see this through. So he gives himself another moment to steel himself before he wretches his sword out of the floor with a hoarse cry, charging at Isen brandishing his blade in one hand while charging another blizzard in the other. ]

[ It's admirable, at least. Seeing someone with a reason to fight that means so much to them. Even in a losing fight. Isen makes the decision of not killing him, he'd made that up in his mind a while ago, so this battle only needed to last long enough to disarm and subdue his opponent. There was no need to distress the soldier more than he already was.

Blade ready, the General rushes to meet Kunsel's attack. The magic spell, there's nothing he can do about that, so he outstretches his mechanic arm to take the full brunt of it. If it freezes and falls off, fine, it wasn't working anyway. His sword meets Kunsel's with a loud clatter, all of his strength and weight put into pushing his opponent back against the wall. ]

[ But of course, Kunsel can't make it that easy for Isen because he can't lose. He can't afford to. He pushes back, refusing to listen to any of his body's signals that its in distress, refusing to give Isen an inch because he has to end this quickly if he's going to be able to end this at all. He's running out of stamina, and quickly. His body's at its limit.

He immediately charges another blizzard, the last one he's got in him, and he aims it at Isen's sword, hoping to knock it aside to give him a clean strike. ]

[ Pity it wasn't as simple as it could be.

He doesn't give a damn about the broken shrapnel his other hand now is, wires fraying as he pushes his blade as hard as he can against Kunsel's. The blizzard spell pushes him back some, but Isen holds on to his grip tight, keeping his blade in his grasp. The resulting ice that forms around his hand and the sword's hilt is freezing enough to burn, but he's not letting go. It's nothing compared to a severed hand, after all.

With an extra rush of strength, Isen uses the combined force of their weapons against each other to vault himself over Kunsel, and the instant he lands on his feet he lashes out, ramming the hilt of his ice-encased sword into his opponent's side. ]

[ That blow makes Kunsel white out in pain, crashing to his knees with a choked cry. His eyes are watering from how badly it hurts, but before he's even fully recovered his hand is groping for his sword again. By now he knows it's hopeless, but he can stall. Stall and hope to god that Isen won't decide to kill him after all. The others need the time to lock down the ship, and right now Kunsel's the only one who can give it to them. There's only five of them and more than a dozen rebels, so every second counts.

He can't quite get back on his feet and so he doesn't even try, remaining at a crouch as he brandishes his sword once more. ]

...Not over yet.

[ This is starting to feel pointless. Even without his abilities, he's a better fighter than this soldier. Isen doesn't want to kill him, but he has the sinking feeling that Kunsel isn't going to give up until then. The man can't even stand on his own two feet. How does he expect to keep going when the only damage done to his opponent is a frozen over robotic hand? ]

Stay down, soldier. [ He says it as a command, like the man was still in his army rather than the opposing country's. He keeps his sword drawn, but he steps back a few paces to avoid any sweeps of that blade. ] I could end this easily enough, but I imagine you like your head on your shoulders, hm?
