SGU 1x08 - Time

Nov 15, 2009 01:45

After not liking last week's episode much at all (parts of it I downright hated), I don't think I could have had a more opposite reaction to this week's. I LOVED THIS EPISODE A LOT. I think this is my favorite so far of the season. Show, you have successfully redeemed yourself for me.

- Loved the format & premise. Seeing most of the ep through the Kino footage was a great spin on the typical documentary-style episode. Loved the jumping back & forth between timelines.

- Whee! SG-1 continuity about the solar flares! That's one thing I like about this franchise. When something is learned within that universe, even if it's not technically the same show, people don't conveniently forget it. I'm sure Rush has had to spend hours going over all of Carter & McKay & Daniel's notes and files.

- The creatures that come out and attack at night (and sleep underground under those ant-hill-dirt-plume things during the day) were straight out of Pitch Black. But since Pitch Black is one of my all time favorite scifi movies, I was a-ok with that. *thumbs up*

- Loved loved loved Greer's talk with Young on the stairs. Thank you, Show, for giving me more footage for my Greer vid. Speaking of Greer, that music he was playing on the planet! I nearly jumped off the couch because I LOVE that song. In fact, that's one of my Vid Songs. I've been making a vid for it in my head for about 4 years now. (The vid in my head is for a different show, not Stargate, but still.) For anyone curious, it was "List of Demands" by Saul Williams and I will embed it below. One of these days I gotta make that vid...

- I have to say, of all the possible medical problems to give Eli's mother, I was not expecting it to be HIV. So, ya know, good job at doing something unexpected, Show. I'm kind of sad that all the character reveals we got this episode would essentially be reset after the implied timeline fix. Ah well. I suppose it is rather early in the series still.

- Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid!!! Yay! How much did I love Young & Rush bonding over that movie? UM, A LOT.

- I really, really like TJ. And I really liked Scott here. Also, I like the minor character female scientist (I think she's a scientist) who fixed the suits in the ice planet episode and who comforted TJ in this episode. I didn't think we ever got a name, but the internet tells me she's Dr. Park, so I'll go with that. I hope we get more of her and learn more about her.

- Ok, so, more of this kind of episode and less of "Earth" will make me a happy person. (I know a lot of people liked "Earth." Eh, what can I say.)

ETA:
- I forgot to mention that I really liked that we didn't see the fix. It's all just implied that Scott's last ditch effort at sending the Kino through worked at the end. I like that.
