Introducing Truman and Roosevelt!
On Saturday, my mom and I went to Meow Cat Rescue in Kirkland and adopted these boys. We had seen them online before going on vacation, and after we got back I talked with the shelter about coming in to see them.
And - surprise, surprise! - they came home with us.
Truman (orange and white) and Roosevelt (black and white) are eight-year-old brothers. Truman is more extroverted than Roosevelt; he loves cuddling and being petted. Roosevelt is more introverted, but he has been the leader in exploring the house and in smacking Ellie around. Both of them are extremely sweet, and settling in well.
Truman and Roosevelt are both special needs cats. Truman has a skin condition on his paws, and Roosevelt has eye issues. They are also both declawed, which has been a learning experience. It is interesting: Roosevelt will smack people when he doesn't like the way that they pet him, whereas Truman uses his paws to pull people's hands towards him. They both enjoy 'scratching' things, and Truman makes bread more than any cat I have ever known. He'll even make bread in the air if he's lying on his side.
Neither of them are lap kitties, but we're trying to let them know that what they want to do is okay (and that they are totally welcome on our laps!).
Truman is a big, big boy; according to his medical records, he is almost seventeen pounds. We had to borrow a kitty carrier from the shelter to get him home because the one we brought for him wasn't big enough!
I have to give a shout-out to Meow, both for their kindness in dealing with us and for their kindness in dealing with the boys. Truman and Roosevelt had been in the shelter since February, and their medical records from then until now are extensive. It is clear that they have been well taken care of - both of them are on medication, and Roosevelt has a kitty eye specialist (who knew that there were such things???).
Truman also has the most adorable faux crimping in the fur on his head. I love it.
Roosevelt loves his cat tree. Loves it! He spends a lot of time sleeping on it. He also loves sitting in windows and watching the world go by.
His face is also extremely, extremely striking. What can't be seen here is that he has beautiful yellow eyes - when he comes around a corner or into a room, I take a breath. He's lovely.

I am so glad that we have had the chance to adopt these boys. They're wonderful cats, and I am looking forward to see how they continue to settle into their new lives.
