just another Summer money-churner

So i saw the new Choc. Factory movie last evening. i dare say i think i'm getting kind of weary of the Burton/Elfman formula, it's gotten to be the same ol' same ol'. i know straight off when i hear something by Danny Elfman in a movie, yet no one piece of music of his sticks with me or seems terribly distinct to me. And as far as Burton's end goes, i just don't find his work very quirky or bizarre or cutting-edge effects-wise anymore. With his films, you know exactly what you're going to get. It's a rut. He's quirky compared to others, that's his bag, but i just don't see his expanding his vision. It's a staid vision of the unusual and the whimsy is gone.

The movie had its moments, certainly, but i wouldn't say it was any better than the original. Though i did appreciate how the new one is closer to the book. i just don't think it could have possibly lived up to the hype, and it didn't. We've been inundated with hype about it on the internet since January. Blah. At least it wasn't the level of Star Whores, though. There's so much merchandising i tend to forget that there was a movie to go with my Amidala gas station tumblers and Sith-embossed Hefty Cinch Sacks.
