A comfortable groove is trying to emerge from the chaos of non-stop shows that I have been privy to over the last couple of months. On top of Morrissey, I've been able to catch Propagandhi, NoMeansNo, Electric Six, Mastodon, Kreator and Cattle Decapitation all in the last two months. It's been pretty wild but now things are calming down enough that I can shift my mind elsewhere. I find myself poring over drafts of writing, mostly lyrics but I am also trying to put together a speech for a wedding I'm speaking at later this year.
The band is headed back out on the road. We leave Winnipeg at 3 a.m. on Saturday in time for a show in Calgary on Saturday night. We head to Jean's mom's place 45 minutes out of Calgary after the show and then wind up in Edmonton on Sunday where we play again. Without a moment to lose, we hop back in the van and drive home overnight from Edmonton, hopefully in time for a late supper on Monday night. It's a long haul and due to waiting until the last minute to rent a van for the trip, we will come out of this trip breaking even. I recieved a bottle of Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old as a gift from friends last weekend at the Mount Elgon 15th Anniversary show. If you are not educated in the realm of Scotch Whiskey or are fearful of it on account of previous bad experiences and want to try it again, I recommend picking up a bottle of this stuff. It's a highland scotch, light, mild while retaining some of the more complex falvours and always maintaining that smoked peat taste from beginning to end. There are a couple of folks in Calgary whom I plan on sharing a bit of it with. Scotch drinkers...my people.
Salut!
