Supposed weekend

Rehearsals for Magic Flute on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, wedding on Saturday morning, usual service on Sunday morning, went to see N's show in Suffolk (about a 2 hour drive) on Saturday afternoon/evening. It had fun parts, but I could now do with another weekend to recover! Another reason to scale down on amateur productions: the rehearsal times tend to cut into my laughably small remaining bits of free time.

The Nigerian wedding was a lot less stressful than I imagined it would be though. Not better organised (although the bride was only 25 minutes late, which is not record-breaking in my experience), but they seemed to have forgotten they'd booked a singer so pretty much anything I did was viewed as an added bonus. I view an inattentive audience as a challenge: I put some extra ornaments and top notes in the reprise of 'Nulla in mundo' specially. People have to be pretty impervious to carry on talking while someone is singing a top C nearby. (Someone even asked if they could borrow my microphone.) As an added bonus, we were watching 'Coming to America' last week and I got to see real rose-petal-scatterers, average age about 4.
