Fun Post

Just because I never seem to make a post just for fun! This isn't about a project I've messed up on, an advice post, an SCA post... this is just because!

First, an update on my life at the moment. I started my internship at the Museum of the Rockies two weeks ago, and it's going really well. My boss (not sure if that's the correct term, I work for her but she's kinda the academic advisor for the internship) is really nice and very smart, and very into textiles! That's actually her specialty as the museum's collections manager and registrar. Today we got to have some fun in collections (where all the stuff people don't see is stored), and we pulled out some beautiful clothes. 1870's emerald silk trained day dress, 1840s smocked calico day dress, the list goes on! It was so neat to actually get to handle the stuff, and not just look at a computer screen!

Speaking of looking at computer screens, here's some costume porn! I perused the Met's online costume collection, like many of us do, and found some things too lovely not to share.

Isn't this gown amazing?! I love that super thick bertha. 1840s.

This dress is too funny! I've never seen those bows down the front! Colors are interesting, too. Love the bodice, so cute! 1860s.

The Met didn't have any pics of this on a mannekin, but it wows me anyways! I can only imagine how this looks on. I love that embroidered lace! 1850s.

OMGOMGOMG. These are both so amazing. I don't normally like the high-necked 1880s stuff but this blue one is astounding! And the gold one's draping!

I give tours at the Story Mansion in Bozeman, a 1910 huge house that takes up a city block. My volunteer coordinator thinks it would be fun for me to make a period-appropriate dress and wear it to the parties and events the Mansion puts on throughout the year. Maybe... I hate being the only one in costume!

Ok, that's all for now. Just felt like sharing. Miss you guys!

fun post!
