They're probably from somewhere beyond Johto. The Pokédex might not have the coding to register them properly.

He'll either learn to get used to people or he won't. [She kind of had to, so that's what she's basing this off of.]

You don't have to like your travelling companions, but it makes the journey easier if you do.
