Lazy Birthday

Somehow I have managed to spend my birthday at home all alone.  I live in Oregon and my husband wanted to fly to Colorado so he could run in the Boulder Marathon tomorrow.  Who am I to stand in the way of the marathon man?  Birthdays are just like any other day anyway, so no big deal.

He did surprise me by sending me

yesterday at work with a lovely note that said, "Happy Birthday.  Sorry I'm not there.  Love, Jeff"

Awe, too sweet.  I think I made the right decision.  I would never want to hold him back from doing what he loves so much.  The running and marathons kind of make him the guy he is.

So, still recovering from my neck surgery (8-7-07) I decided to enjoy a very lazy birthday.  I actually managed to go to work all 5 days last week, but still only have the stamina for about 6 hours per day.  One day I stayed at work from 9am-6pm and it was too much.  I had to go home and go straight to bed.  So, for the birthday, I told everyone that if I got dressed and out of bed for anything other than coffee and snacks I would consider it less than a success.  So far so good (at 7pm).

I've spent the entire day propped up in bed with the remote controls and the lap top and watched the Oregon Duck Football game (they lost 31 to 24), a couple of Karl Urban movies on in the background after the football game, surfed the internet, finished reading a story on Moonlight Fiction called Only the Strong, by Jaye (a CoR FPS), checked out my LJ mail, and talked to all of my family and friends that live about 1000 miles away on the phone as they called to tell me Happy Birthday.  Oh, I did also have to make sure the dog and the cats had food and that Buddy the dog went out to use the facilities--but that didn't eat into my pajama time too much.

It is funny, but even though some people are appalled that anyone can be lazy enough to stay in bed for an entire day, I think that several people were a little envious that it isn't something they'd ever be able to do.  Hence,  encouraging my spousal unit to run and do the marathons and stuff.  That stuff takes time and even though I love him and like to spend time together, frankly, I need some "Me Time" too.  It all works out just great.

Back to reality tomorrow.  I'll of course actually have to get up and do something.  I think that I'll drive to town and see a movie.  I have wanted to see Becoming Jane since it came out and it is finally showing in my little town that only has 14 theatre screens in the entire county, or seeing 3:10 to Yuma which I have seen favorably reviewed by many on LJ.  Decisions, decisions.

Anyway, with 5 hours of the day to go, I am going to call it an unqualified success!

birthday, karl urban, pajamas, roses, marathon
