Bad news, good news

Bad stuff: About a week ago I did a bit of maths (not my forte, which is why I didn't do it a long time ago), and realised that unless some nice millionaire randomly showed up and gave me about 100'000 SEK there was no way I could go to the US to study this year. So it's all been called off, the loans/grants I'd already received have been returned, and now it's back to job hunting.
I guess I'll work for a year or two, save money, apply for scholarships, then try again. Or I'll find something completely different to do. With my fickle brain, one never knows (though it'd be nice to keep following the road of comics, since I've already started going that way).

Yeah. To the good stuff.

The gangette of geeks, M.E.S, was reunited for a few days when my mates Marie and Emilia came to town. There was much wandering around, eating of nuts and dried fruit, visiting secondhand stores, drooling over nice clothes, drooling over the diabetes-inducing groceries in The English Shop, a re-watch of Watchmen (which, we agreed, isn't all that good, really. Rorschach is fab (and hot), the rest is feh), and, the highlight of these wonderful days, seeing District 9.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a movie without knowing anything about the plot and/or the characters. With D-9 I knew there'd be aliens in a slum on Earth, but that was all. I don't want to give anything away to anyone who hasn't seen it, but... it is awesome, and I am totally in love with the main character.
I am a fan, but I'm not getting involved with the fandom, 'cos I took a look at it and, uh, no. Some things - not many, but some - are not improved by slashfic.

I didn't get much shopping done this time, only a tiny silk purse, 'cos I didn't get any money until just before Emilia and Marie went home. Then I promptly went and bought myself a pair of fabulous, vivid blue pants. :D I found a book I want though, Fashion Design 1800 - 1940. I think I'll get it the next time I visit the store it was in, which happens to be the cheapest art supply store in Stockholm.

Speaking of fashion design, I've got a t-shirt design up for voting on Pop-Tee.com, and I'd be happy if anyone reading this would like to take a second to vote. There's no need to register or do a pre-order, all it takes is one simple click. :)
I've got some more designs in the works, I'll let y'all know when they're up.

And that's all for now.

job, institute of learnings, stuff i've bought, good times
