Yes, Waitress is that movie by Adrienne Shelly, who was tragically murdered before the film's release. I was interested in it, partly to see what the movie would be like, and also because I am secretly in love with Nathan Fillion.
I just want to say, this movie made me want to punch someone in the face (kind of like Juno). The main character is pregnant, goes through the pregnancy hating the idea of the kid, even saying (I'm paraphrasing) some women aren't meant to be mothers. And so on and so forth. I don't have a problem with that. I agree! It's a myth that all women are meant to be mothers. Choosing not to have kids isn't a crime! So I felt, go on with your bad self, it's nice to see women represented that don't want to opt in to having children. That's cool.
EXCEPT FOR WHEN SHE HAS THE BABY AND OMIGOD SHE LOVES IT SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH IT REQUIRES SOFT FOCUS LENSES.
For once would it be ok for the media to show a woman who doesn't drool over babies?
And Juno doesn't count, because it's the most obnoxiously written, horrifyingly unrealistic portrayal of anyone ever.
And I say this as a woman who loves babies and who wants her own family. SOME WOMEN DON'T WANT BABIES. Christ on a cracker.
