In my German politics seminar earlier we were discussing Die Linke("The Left Party") and how their colour is purple. Our lecturer found it so funny and asked what purple meant to us. I suggested Spanish Republicanism which was patted down with "well I suppose you've got the excuse of being in Spain for a year". The actual answer was Feminism, which ( Read more... )

yeah, purple to me instantly conjures up images of suffragettes and, er, tinky winky.

even as a kid my favourite colours were green and purple - but not any green and purple, the exact same shades as are used in the suffragettes' ribbons. i didn't know until recently that that was what they signified. i guess i was very well hidden feminist as a kid ;)

i think it's a good point about how well feminism is ignored by society - i'm trying to think if any other equality groups' colours are so well known...

:up: actually the colours i like so much are not quite as in that pic - i'm thinking of how they looked when they were new, not the faded version in the pic.
