Little Extra Things: Memes

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Souji is around a middle to thin build, and is 5'11", so that makes him pretty tall, especially for a kid his age. He's more on the thin side then anything else, though he has some definition, made moreso by all the time spent fighting in the TV world. He definitely has some good legs on him; playing soccer/basketball will do that for you. His arms are pretty strong as well.

2. How old is he?
He is 17 years old in canon, and 17 in Splendor and Soul Campaign.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Souji carries himself like a model. He doesn't slouch unless he needs to slouch, and his usual stance is him with a hand on his hip. He carries himself with a straight back and head held high. He had years of people making sure he stood up straight and sat up straight all his life.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He is definitely fit and in shape. There are no physical disabilities, and beyond a usual cold, he tends not to get sick. When he was young he did break his left arm, but there's never been any problems since.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He's the kind of person who moves with purpose. He's very graceful, and has a cat-like fluidness to his walk and demeanor. He's always going somewhere when he walks.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
This character is very attractive! He's tall, thin, has a nice full head of hair, a really gorgeous set of eyes, a beautiful face with defined features, and will continue to look like this even as he gets older. Plus he has the added benefit of looking damn good with or without glasses, and let's not even get started on when he takes his shirt off. When he looks in the mirror, he sees an average looking teenage boy. He doesn't have any acne, and if he does, it's not much of a blemish. he's really not one to dwell too much on his appearance once he's made sure his hair is brushed and there's nothing on his face. He sees himself as a normal person, and that may be one of the reasons why people find him so attractive in the first place; he gives an appearance of not caring that much, and being very natural.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
He has very surprisingly light skin, and it's very clear. There are probably a few scars on his hand from holding a sword and fighting in the TV world, and I'm sure there might be a few scars on his torso. Headcanon gives him one long scar on his left hip that came from one of the dancers in the strip club dungeon, one that Yukiko couldn't get to right away.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
A full head of hair that's gray in color and cut in a bowl-cut shape. It's very soft (he's a man who conditions) and it's very thick. He's had this style ever since he could remember; at one point he did think of changing it up, but it's too much of a hassle. When he goes out clubbing or to a special event, he tends to gel it to make it a little spikier, or he might gel it all the way back. He does that on extremely rare occasions.

9. What color are his eyes?
His eyes are gray, with a silver ring around his pupils.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
The bowl-cut is not a modern haircut, so it's pretty noteworthy. Plus he can pull it off.

11. What are his chief tension centers?
Chief tension centers are in his shoulders, most notably the spots closest to his neck, as well as his sinus centers, from his eyebrows to the bridge of his nose.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Souji's clothes are varied in the fact that they're not varied. In canon, he usually wears his school's uniform, complete with the jacket, and when he has time off from school, he tends to wear casual yet old fashion classy clothes in muted colors. He mostly wears clothes that are beige, black, and gray, though he does probably wear any other dark color such as dark blue or dark green. He's not the kind of guy to go and wear bright colors, and he prefers something simple versus something too elaborate.

However, it should be noted that he reads men's fashion magazines, and if given the chance will probably wear clothes that are in magazines such as GQ. Souji likes looking good when he has occasion to, and so probably has a few suits and other clothes that he didn't feel he would need when he came to Inaba.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
His clothes either fit well, or are on the slightly baggier side. His pants are definitely fitted, though, and while not as tight as a certain someone's jeans, he prefers clothes that make him look good, and are always comfortable. Comfort is the main objective; he won't wear something that;s uncomfortable, no matter how fashionable it might be.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
He dresses the same. he doesn't change that much when it comes to clothes. He just adds an apron and goes with it.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Briefs. Probably boxers just to sleep in if he really calls for it on a hot summer night when the AC doesn't work. But otherwise briefs.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
I'm going to go with the Japanese CDs on his voice for this; it's soft and mostly emotionless, though there is a little motion there when he laughs and such. He's not a robot; he's just quiet most of the time and has a very gentle tone whenever he talks. He doesn't talk down, but he talks patiently most of the time.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He talks soft and evenly, and he doesn't tend to hesitate. He yells when he needs to, which isn't often, and when he's angry he tends to get even more cold and emotionless, rather then yelling. So when he does yell, it's very surprising.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
None really. He's very polite in all manner of speech, even around his friends; he does tend to loosen up the better he knows a person, however.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
He speaks Japanese, and also knows English, since he works as a translator. Headcanon also goes with a limited knowledge of Italian, Latin and German, if only because he's read so many cookbooks that a knowledge of that is helpful.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Souji is a very good impromptu speaker. He always knows what to say, and is very quick to think on his feet when it comes to it.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He is very eloquent. If he needs to make a speech, he's ready to do it right away, and he can do it well.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Souji is fairly intelligent! He's very book smart, but that's because he studies, and studies hard to earn his grades. He has a very open mind, and so it's easy for him to learn new things and retain that knowledge for later use. He's also street smart from living in so many places, especially different cities. He is an honor student, though, and works to keep up those grades.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He definitely is the kind of guy who thinks on his feet, and is very fast about it. Once he's made a decision, he keeps it, and makes these decisions rather quickly, though they are also filled with merit. He doesn't just say or do things to get something out of the way.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Very logical and practical, and while he does trust his instincts, most of his decisions are going to be fact based rather then complete gut instinct.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
He's still in high school at the moment, though he's also had one of those educations where the baby bird was tossed out of the nest to learn how to fly. He doesn't get much support from his parents for anything he does unless they want him to do it.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Souji is a Shin Megami Tensei Main Protagonist. His area of expertise is everything, so to speak. However, there are some things that he's better at then others. For example, he is not much of a musician. He can hum, and while he can play trumpet for band, it's only very basic songs he can play, and he doesn't care to learn more or have much skill in that area. he could also [probably plunk out a few notes for piano if he really cared to try. However, the thing he is best at is listening to people and learning more about them. He's really very interested in people and what makes them tick, so to speak. He enjoys helping people, and will do whatever he can to help someone.

Headcanon has him being very interested in psychology, and wanting to learn more over the years. His parents want him to go into the same business that they are in, but Souji is not a person made for business, and while he can do most things well, he would never be happy in that position. As a result, he would prefer to go into psychology and become a psychologist/psychiatrist, or I can feasibly see him as a guidance counselor of some type. Souji enjoys helping children, and likes children, so working with a school, or doing psychology work with children is something he would do.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Deeply, deeply introverted. Souji enjoys learning about people, but is not the type to open up about himself; any time he does open up a little bit, it's more to get the other person to open up completely, rather then him actually wanting someone in his life to know anything about him. He has a problem with letting people in, and really, as much as he loves his friends and family, none of them will know anything about him unless he let it out on purpose.

In Splendor, this is particularly true, as he only spoke about his uncle and cousin to Shiki to have her open up about what is going on for her back home.

In Soul Campaign, this is being used to rather detrimental effects on his character. Coming into a world where people apparently knew him, and knew what was going on back home about events and things that he had to keep secret is very unnerving to him. So when Minato and Minako both talk to him about Persona and the Wild card ability, he is a little uncomfortable at first before moving past it and talking about things with them. As such, when Roy makes mention that he would be a good addition to the DOGS team because of his past experiences, he isn't sure what to say, and is actually surprised about what this man knows about him.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Souji is a very even tempered type person, and very calm and laid back. He's generally cheerful, and it takes a lot for him to become angry. Especially a hot anger; he's much more prone to become cold when he's angry, and to cut himself off emotionally and talk in a monotone while angry. To push him into yelling takes a lot, and while Yosuke was able to push him to that, he's really one of the only ones who could. It's not a normal thing for him to yell, unless need be. He's not one to become emotional in average day situations.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He is incredibly open to conversations with new people. In fact, one of the easiest things for him to do is to strike up conversation with anyone ever. he's very relaxed and open, and wants to have people talk to him. However, it should be noted that he's not open about himself, and while he's very kind and happy to talk to someone, he won't bring up anything that's not just superficial for him.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
he's much more about reacting to a situation or what people tell him rather then just acting on impulse. He's not the kind of person who will do that, but depending on the situation, he will then act.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. He's never going to flee at the first signs of trouble, but he doesn't always go up in arms over something either. Again, it depends on the situation, as he's more calm and laid back about things.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Souji definitely has a sense of humor. His is more of a dry and sarcastic type humor, though, as he's not the kind of guy who will make puns or actually tell jokes. But he appreciates jokes and will laugh if they are funny, or just look at you funny if they're not funny at all and he's wondering where you came up with that. He can be a bit of a troll when it comes to Yosuke, if only because he has a guy's sense of humor then, and will tease people lightly about things. Otherwise most of his remarks are sarcastic, and can sometimes be taken as joking when you least expect it.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Souji can be prone to bouts of depression, though it's a situational depression at that, and it's never enough to let on that something is wrong to anyone else. He doesn't do much about it besides throw himself into his work, which might not be the best strategy, but he finds it's a lot easier. Otherwise he's emotionally closed off, which might become a problem when he goes into a relationship, but otherwise in game canon he's fine.

In Soul Campaign, he's definitely prone to more depression because of the information he keeps receiving about what happened with Nanako, Dojima, and Adachi. However, Minato is helping with that so much by keeping him busy and giving him things to do, otherwise he would completely close himself off to everyone.

Headcanon states that as he gets older he develops problems with sleeping due to too many things going on in his head at once, and he ends up taking an anti-depressant to help with depression that intensifies as he gets older. he also takes herbal remedies to help sleep, rather then taking actual sleeping pills, though he probably has them as a PRN.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
His move to Inaba is the biggest thing to happen to him since his parents started moving around when he was young. Everything that happened in Inaba defined who he was going to become as he got older, especially because he found he could make actual friendship bonds and keep them; something he had not thought to do before.

14. What does he fear?
Failure, absolutely. He was put in charge as the leader, and failure is not an option in anything that Souji does. So failing his friends, his family, or anyone isn't something that he can do, and so it's a very large fear of his.

In Soul Campaign this fear is also added onto the feeling of possibly not being needed. It's a very irrational fear, and while Souji knows it, that doesn't make it feel any less real. It compounds a fear of being inadequate, and not being able to live up to the previous "Souji".

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He wants to help everyone, and he wants to succeed in everything that he does. Any higher aspirations for himself are to possibly find someone someday, or to become held in high esteem in his chosen field of work.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He's not as brave as he portrays himself, and he has a huge fear of being the leader, though he's willing to take up the task. But the idea that if things go wrong, everyone will look to him, as well as being in charge of whether people live or die, and the idea that he could make the wrong choice in something, it makes him truly terrified about being in charge. That's something he will never let anyone know.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
There is no relationship with his parents. In his life, while he cares for them, Souji can only put them on a low rank in his life. While what they do and say affects his life (usually for the worst), they aren't around enough to make much of an impact.

Headcanon states that the only reason he was born was because his parents believed it would make them more influential to have a child, so they could relate to their coworkers, and also use him as a bit of leverage when need be. Very much in the sense of someone from another company has a child, and so having one around the same age would be beneficial for the business that they do, and what they will eventually do. It was to help secure a future more then anything else, and while his parents love him, they also look at his existence in an abject way as well.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Souji does not have any siblings.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Dojima, his uncle, and Nanako, his young cousin, are the blood relatives that he is closest to. In fact, he sees Dojima as a surrogate father, and Nanako as his little sister. He will do anything for them, and will protect them with his life if it came to that.

In Soul Campaign he has gone so far as to call Nanako "little sis" on multiple occasions.

In Splendor, he has accidentally said that his sister is in the hospital, rather then his cousin.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
The entire Investigation Team counts as his family. His relationships range depending on the person, but each one of them can count on him whenever they need him, for whatever it is that they need him for.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
His best friend, and the first one that he has ever had, is Yosuke Hanamura. They met because Souji decided to help out that loser idiot rolling around in the trashcan just outside school, and ever since, Yosuke has made it his job in life to be his best friend. Souji just rolled with it as first, until they became closer after some time. Now he finds it very hard to imagine life without him in it.

6. Does he have other close friends?
The entire Investigation Team counts as close friends, though out of them all, he's probably closer to Yukiko and Chie, mainly because they are the same age, and they make up the original four.

In Splendor, the close friends have been more defined as Yosuke and Naoto, more because they have been in Splendor around the same amount of time he has.

In Soul Campaign, his close friends constitute Rise, and Minato is slowly working his way up to the close friend position as well. Kurt has also become a major person in Souji's life, if only because he can tell there is something going on that he would like to know more about this kid, as well as having the benefit of knowing what it is like to be an outcast at times.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Souji makes friends so easily that it's not even funny. He makes friends with even the oddest people you would never expect someone as "cool" as him to make friends with. He gets along with everyone, and it takes a lot for him to not get along with someone.

In Soul Campaign, this instance is used for Kuroro Lucifer; the man managed to get on a bad footing with him right off the bat, though he is trying for friendly even now.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family and friends hold the same spot in his life, considering he never really had either until he went to Inaba.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Souji tends to stay single, and while there's the opportunity to have him date one of his friends, or someone else in Inaba, he is the kind of guy who will only date someone he finds a real, true connection with. It's about trust in a relationship for him, and so he needs that basic building block to start off anything.

In Splendor, he kind of has a crush on Lavi that he's not really acknowledging as a crush, just as someone he wants to spend time with. While he turned down Rise in making their relationship romantic, it is something that he has thought about, and if they continue to stay in Splendor, he might consider at some point on taking her up on it. Yosuke is an entirely different story.

In Soul Campaign, there is no one that currently holds his interest in crush wise, though he is fine with people crushing on him.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Headcanon states that his first crush was on his babysitter, the girl who would come and watch him while his parents went to different parties and late night meetings. His latest crush is a slight crush on Yosuke, though in a way that makes him feel odd for having a crush on your best friend. Otherwise he probably thinks of Naoto and Rise in a certain light at times.

In Splendor, his latest crush is on Lavi, Yosuke, and a small one on Fang.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
The person needs to be able to hold a conversation about something that's interesting to both of them, to start it off. But otherwise, as stated before, trust is a huge part of any relationship he might look into pursing, and so Souji would need to trust them explicitly. He would like to have someone he can finally open up to, and someone who won't leave at the first sign of trouble. Souji would also need to have his partner know that he loves them; when Souji loves someone, it's forever. He doesn't half ass anything.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Souji has no children, and headcanon states that while he likes children, he does not think of himself as a suitable parental figure because of the poor role models he had growing up. He would not want to inflict anything about his life onto a child. However, he would be fine with raising one that he knows, such as needing to raise Nanako if something ever happens to Dojima.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Adachi counts as an enemy because of what he has done, and the only real rivalry he has is a friendly competition with Yosuke, but it's not that big of a deal.

In Splendor, Yosuke and Souji actually had a "race car" challenge thrown at them, to which they both participated admirably. Yosuke would have won if he had not thought to cheat, and if Souji had not tripped him because he was about to push him aside.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Let it be known that I hate the Kinsey Scale before anything else is said. Otherwise, Souji is a 2; he does not care that much about gender, and is very pansexual when it comes to his thoughts and feelings for a person. It depends on the person for him, though he will gravitate more to girls if they are thrown in his face.

Headcanon puts him more at a 3, however, and girls vs boys is a non-issue.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Sex is a very take it or leave it thing for Souji. While he feels that it is helpful in making a relationship work well and grow stronger, it's also something that is not a deciding factor in his thoughts on a relationship. Souji will never be a "friends with benefits" type of guy; that way of thinking is rather repulsive for him, as he needs something more substantial to get through everything. But Souji is also a teenage boy, and while he';s not obsessed with it, he does want sex and will enjoy having it. I don't think he could be in a relationship for a large amount of time without there being something physical involved as well.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Souji is rather vanilla when it comes to any kinks or weird bedroom habits. Trust again is a huge factor for him, so most kinks are about trust and trusting your partner. Souji would be into power play, though, especially being dominated by someone else, though he is more then happy to take the top position in any relationship. Light bondage would be okay, along the lines of blindfolds, neckties, or even just keeping a hand pinned with his own hand. Souji does love dirty talk, however, and while he doesn't always do it well, it's a very big turn on to hear it from someone else.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Headcanon says Souji is a Pisces, which fits his very fluid nature well.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Not very religious beyond the tradition Japanese sense of visiting shrines on the holidays or to make an offering for help. It's not something he really considers important; it's really just something he doesn't think about it at all.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
The best thing that could be said is that Souji can be black and white in his views on things; but the thing is, he knows this already. He can see the gray side, and he's willing to acknowledge it, but he doesn't believe that his morals are wrong in any case.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Souji is tolerant of everything, and while he may not be ready to convert, he doesn't mind listening about different religions or beliefs. Even if the person is evil and crazy, he will still want to listen, though probably through a glass wall.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Souji holds no prejudices, and he accepts people as they are, flaws and everything.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
His family is very rich; rich enough that he has a lot of extra cash. Which is funny when it comes time for Dojima to give him his "allowance" money, because he's well off and never runs out. Plus, having a million other jobs to fuel your ever growing sword collection helps.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He's always been rich because of his parents, but he doesn't let it get to his head. He takes everything in stride.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He lives in the Dojima house in Inaba, which is small and nice. Headcanon states that his parents own a penthouse in the city, which is where they live. The type of place that has an elevator that takes them directly to the top floor from the parking garage. As he gets older, he probably finds a place that is on the second floor of a building, or over top a small shop. But wherever he lives, it is always clean and nice and everything is organized.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Books, weapons, food (especially food challenges like the beef bowl!), clothing, movies, CDs, and things for his friends.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Souji works as a janitor, day care worker, tutor, translator, envelope folder, and crane folder. Most of these jobs will pay, but otherwise there are just some he does because he can, and he enjoys doing it.

Headcanon states that as he gets older, he begins to find other jobs, like working at a grocery store, working at a clinic to help with his new therapy job, and he is a bartender on some nights at different clubs that need the help. And he's getting pretty good at bar flair by this point.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Everything! But otherwise books are a main interest, as well as magic tricks. Souji enjoys the random things, and lame magic tricks are something that he loves as a hobby, even if he doesn't show it much. Otherwise he's going to spend his free time with friends, family, or reading a book.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Souji is a total boy when it comes to food. A total boy. He eats whatever is there, and whatever is in sight. He does also eat anything he finds in the fridge, such as old rice to grass. The boy has an iron stomach and a high metabolism, and he puts it to good use by eating everything.

Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:

1. Color? Light silver.
2. Smell? Sandalwood and cloves.
3. Time of day? Lazy afternoons.
4. Season? Fall
5. Book? The Iliad.
6. Music? Whatever Yosuke is singing under his breath that week.
7. Place? The beach.
8. Substance? Chalk pastels.
9. Plant? Blue Agave.
10. Animal? Cat. Very simple.
