Character Personality: In the game, Souji is a silent protagonist, one who’s in game personality if left up to the player, who decides what he says based on the dialogue choices that are given. However, there are only a few different responses that are given to choose from, and the choices that come up during conversations with someone who he has a Social Link with directly affect those links. For the Social Link to become maxed, giving Souji all the power from it, the right choices need to be made. In this way, those right answers can be considered the canon dialogue choices; just as well, the other characters make comments from time to time about his personality in the game.
Souji is the type that is able to go with the flow of events, adapting himself to whatever situation or person that he meets. He’s able to get along with all types of people, regardless of how they meet, or what type of relationship they have. Most times he knows what people want to hear; whether it’s what they need to hear is debatable. However, even if he is able to go with the flow, he always knows what is important, and he will always stand by that no matter what. In his life, the friendships that he has are one of the most important things to him, and he is able to make friends wherever he goes. While he’ll never turn down an opportunity to spend time with them, it becomes more of an issue about how to juggle them all and make sure he gets to spend enough time with each of them. It’s not so much that he can’t keep up, but each one needs to be meaningful, and he always puts his all into each friendship, growing closer to them in turn. He cares deeply for his friends, and is willing to do whatever he needs to, to make sure they’re happy and safe.
The closer you are to him, the more Souji is willing to open up and be more himself then anything else. While he has no problem conversing with everyone, there’s the side of him that isn’t shown to just everyone he meets. He saves that for his closest friends, especially when he knows that they won’t judge him. He enjoys joking around with his guy friends like any other boy, whether it’s just some light teasing, or if it’s about girls and other guy talk. Once you get close enough to him, he’s definitely the type who will tease his friends every once in awhile. While he doesn’t do it all the time, he has a good sense of balance in his teasing; it never becomes too hurtful, and it’s never too vague that the person won’t get it. He knows when it’s a good time to tease someone, and when he needs to be more understanding of the person and their situation. While even some of his friends have problems with filtering what they say, Souji is more the type to carefully weigh his words before speaking, making sure that he doesn’t just blurt out whatever comes to mind first.
Because he takes his time to carefully weigh his words before speaking, Souji is much more a strong and silent type of person. He definitely falls more into being a listener more then a speaker, though he does speak if spoken to. Even though he’s a bit on the silent side, he is able to make his feelings clear on certain subjects with a simple nod of his head or a shrug of his shoulders. When asked direct questions, he always answers them to the best of his ability, whether it’s an academic question or something else. However, when it comes to most things, his answers are more serious then anything else. Souji takes things rather seriously, though he doesn’t go overboard with it. He always gives off a calm and serious vibe; he doesn’t get riled up easily, and even if he does become angry or upset, he’s more the type who will hide it inside of him, wait until he’s calmed down enough, and then figure out what he should do to get the best results out of a situation. It made perfect sense that the group would give him the position of being the leader of the group because of this, and he takes his leadership seriously. He’s kind to the rest of his team, and when they’re upset and something might happen, he’s there to help rein them in and get them focused and back on track.
However, there are a few things about Souji that might seem out of place at first glance, but make sense, given how he acts around people. For one, Souji is a pretty good chef. Living with his parents in the city really helped Souji learn different skills, and while his parents’ job makes them have to move around a lot, being left home alone more often then not helped him learn to fend for himself. Cooking and being able to make his own meals was a skill he most likely had to learn fairly early on in his life, and while he tends to eat, or at least taste, anything that is put in front of him, Souji would much rather eat something pleasing to his taste buds then anything else. Just as well, with long days of nothing to do but go to school, work some days, and spend time at home, he studies and reads a lot of different type of books and pamphlets. He wouldn’t be classified as a nerd, but he gets very high grades no matter what the subject, due to his intense attention in his classes, and time given over to studying because there’s nothing else to do in an empty house. He’s smart, but he could have become a slacker if he wanted to; the fact that he doesn’t shows the effort that he puts into everything he does. When he moves to Inaba and lives with his uncle and his cousin, he’s able to relate to her rather well, due to the fact that she is home a lot on her own as well. Because of that, he does whatever he can to make her happy; even rather lame attempts at magic.
All in all, Souji is a rather typical high school student. He’s friendly, easy going, understanding, hard working, helpful, and serious, even though he’s a quiet individual. He cares for his friends’ safety and well being, and will do anything to help them. He cares about his family, believes fully in every decision that he makes, and while it may take some time to become a close friend of his, he will not let you down no matter what.
Character Abilities: Souji’s abilities range in from the everyday of being book and street smart, knowing how to cook, and being a patient listener to anyone who needs one, to the physical, where he can go to school, do after school activities such as soccer and band, and then have a night job as well as an after school job some days, all the way to the supernatural. He is able to handle a sword, and whenever in combat, prefers two handed swords, since he is able to handle them better then any other weapon.
In regards to the supernatural, Souji is also able to summon a Persona. A Persona is a physical representation of one’s self, and unlike his teammates, Souji has the Wild Card ability, which means he can summon multiple Personae. With every new friend he makes, his Social Links grow, enabling to make and fuse more powerful Personae. Souji’s life, if need be, can be simplified into five groups; courage, knowledge, charm, expression, and understanding. All of these groups show what he’s able to do, and how well he is able to do it; he’s smart, he is courageous when the occasion calls for it, and he is charming to everyone he meets. The last two, expression and understanding, show that Souji is capable of showing and sharing what he feels he should, as well as understanding the predicament of people he begins to establish relationships with.
Character Weaknesses: Despite his outer appearance, Souji has a few weaknesses, though all of them are personality traits rather then fears or phobias. Souji’s biggest weakness is the fact that while he worries for others, he doesn’t let other people worry about him. Because of this inability to let people in, he doesn’t let people know when he is in more trouble then he can handle, whether physically or psychologically. He is the type of person who won’t say he needs someone to help him even through the darkest times he has. Just as well, while Souji makes friends, and even calls certain people his “best friend”, he still always maintains the mind set of someone who is used to being alone, and doing things alone, rather then involve other people. This can be extremely detrimental, seeing as he might go do something alone when he shouldn’t.
Even with everything going for him, in the end, Souji really is only a teenage boy, and has the downsides of that as well as the upsides. While he might be better at most about hiding his flaws, he still has them. While Souji never had to face his Shadow in order to gain a Personae like everyone else, his Shadow seemed to take on a human form; Adachi. It can be said that some of the things that Adachi says are things that Souji feels, but doesn’t acknowledge; angry at his parents, for being forced to move around so much, and never being there, all the way to being forced to always be the leader, and be the one who is looked to as the best. Souji can never fail, and can never fall enough to look human to people, in his mind, and that need to keep up appearances will always be his biggest weakness.
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister: Souji should be a Meister because he’s the type of person who is able to get to really know a person, and find out their strengths and weaknesses fairly quickly. When he makes friends, he does whatever he can to booster their self confidence, and to help them be the best that they can be. Souji knows what he can do, and he knows his limits and weaknesses, as well as his strengths. Once he knows someone well, they become a little more equal in his eyes. While he will always worry about people more and not let someone into his own problems, he will work to fix that depending on the relationship with the person. Souji uses mostly swords when he fights, but he can learn to be versatile.
Meister Ability: Calming Wavelength - Their soul soothes those around them and is resistant to the Madness Wavelength.

[ SAMPLES ]
First Person: [There's a view of a wall and a door, and a long time before the person decides to speak.]
It's not that funny, but if my friend was here, he might make a joke about this. [Pause.] How this isn't the strangest thing that's happened, recently.
[The view changes, moving slowly away from the wall to focus on the face of a young man with gray hair and gray eyes.]
My name is Seta Souji. I was told about what I might expect in this place during that tour.
[He smiles faintly, looking down for a moment before looking back up.]
I do have a question that so far no one has been able to answer. Is there anyone here who knows of Yasoinaba, or is from there? I was told that sometimes people from the same place end up here, and while I doubt there’s anyone from there here, I figure it is worth a shot.
[Sighs and finishes softly.] Thank you for your help.
Third Person: They were taking a break in Magatsu Inaba when Souji decided to take a look ahead. Not much of one, considering that the fog had thickened considerably, and had been ever since they had first started going through this dungeon of horrors that stemmed from Adachi’s mind. It was fight after fight after fight, and while otherwise at this point Souji would have called off the search and let everyone go back home for some rest, he didn’t have that option this time around. The weather forecast was in effect, and everyone knew what that meant. Today was the last day they had to get to Adachi, and if they didn’t, Souji wasn’t sure what would happen. He didn’t want to think of what would happen. So telling Rise to keep an eye open, so to speak, he told the rest of the group to wait where they were.
It wasn’t the same like the other dungeons. Yosuke didn’t want him to go ahead alone, and really, no one else did either. But Souji could see how tired they were. They were spending so much money on the fox, whenever it showed up in an empty room, but while that healed their health, and healed their Personae, it didn’t heal the heaviness in their hearts. It didn’t make the mental anguish any better; the idea that this was someone they all knew, in a way, especially Souji, was hurting them more then any of them would let on. It was hurting Souji more then he could ever let on. As he rounded a corner, the fog closing in, the red hurting his eyes, and as everything went dark, all he could think of was where was the Shadow he hadn’t noticed?
When he woke up in darkness, the first thing that came to mind was…nothing. And that in itself was scary, as his head was always crowded with different Personae. He could feel them all the time, could sense each of their power whenever he talked to certain people; that glow Mada made when he hung out with Yosuke, or when Archangel let him know how glad he was that he was spending time with Nanako. And to go for so long with these feelings, to have a head full, and to now be absolutely silent; it almost hurt, as he huddled over in the dark, hands on the ground as he tried to hold on. Souji thought for a moment that he might be sick, and that was when his eyes focused on a piece of caution tape on a pillar. Was he still in Magatsu Inaba? He couldn’t feel anything. Everything felt numb, and hearing a television turn on, his hand automatically went for a sword that wasn’t there.
He thought that he might die. He was preparing himself for it, when an image of a man appeared before him. But the red haired man was telling him to be calm, and Souji quickly schooled his face into the blank, casual indifference that he wore like a mask, while his thoughts and feelings were in turmoil. He didn’t have any weapons with him anymore; all of his Personae were gone. He could feel the charm that Nanako had given him in his pocket, and his glasses were still on his face. He hadn’t even noticed them, and he slowly took them off and put them in his pocket, marveling that they hadn’t been broken yet. No broken bones, and the only blood on him was from where he had gotten a cut from a Shadow; one that had been quickly healed by Yukiko. He didn’t even try to think about the others right now; what they would do, or what they were saying, or this was it. How could they defeat Adachi now, if he wasn’t even there anymore?
They could do it without him. Right? They could do it without him. But as he sunk back down onto the floor, ignoring the communicator device he was being given, he shook his head, hiding his face behind a hand. He just killed them all.
And there was nothing he could do about it.
