Pyrenees

June 22

On Saturday morning I got up early and went to hike the Pyrenees. It was so nice to leave Barcelona. It has been so humid here lately. Once we got out of the city the air felt so much sweeter and fresher. I enjoyed feeling the breeze on my face and in my hair. We reached a very small village town named Quebralas. It is exactly on the French- Spanish border. The streets are narrow and all the buildings are made with stone. It really reminded me of that old village Dorofli in Heidi.

In Quedbralas we took a small train up the hill and at the top there was an absolutely gorgeous emerald green lake. With the sun sparkling off it it reminded me of that lake in Glacier National Park or the Quilotoa Lagoon which I hiked around last year.

After we decided on a route we took a gandola up and once off we began to hike. The air was a little cold but the views were so breath-taking. I couldn´t stop taking pictures. My guide told me when we stopped for lunch that he thought I had gotten lost out there. I replied, ¨Lost in the best possible of ways. ¨ I found myself relaxing and letting go. I was getting lost in the beauty of this amazing place. The mountain and valleys seemed to extent forever and sky seemed endless. The peace and traquility was only shattered by our occasional conversation and laughter. I wasn´t worried about anything. I really was just enjoying as that old phrase goes, ¨Smelling the roses.¨

During the hike we saw a mountain goat. I was surprised at how close it let us get to it before it took off.

We hiked the Spanish side of the Pyrennes but as our guide explained if we had gone the other way we would have hiked into the south of France.
