Ugh...
As always things seem to be moving at a million miles an hour. Maybe that is just the nature of living in our world of the internet, smart phones/dumb people, overworking yet being underpaid. I suppose being busy is a luxury I shouldn't complain about, just a few months ago the shop looked like it was nose diving out of control but the last three months things could not have been better for us and there is no signs of it being a fluke.
It's not just work that's been stressing me out and I'm sure I don't have to rehash it all here at this point but suffice it to say I need a vacation from... well everything at this point. For lack of a better option at the moment this weekend was going to serve as a break from it all and come Friday afternoon I was excited accordingly.
Regrettably things didn't turn out the way I had planed.
Friday night didn't exactly turn out the way I would have wanted it too and after a night of getting horrible sleep I woke early to find Minx's phone downstairs disturbingly ringing off the hook. Turns out her mom had been admired to the hospital overnight and they had found something that didn't look good. (She's been out of the hospital since Sunday and we are STILL waiting to hear if what they found is a benign cyst or something malignant but the Dr.'s are fairly certain it's just a cyst) So Saturday became quite an emotional day at the hospital and leaving Minx and I not in the mood for the kinky party we had been invited too and desperately wanted to go to.
Sunday we ran around town doing all this shopping we needed to do and planed on getting done Saturday and then spent the rest of the day home to wiped out physically and emotionally to do anything else. That just left Monday and at this point I REALLY needed a day off from everything.
As luck would have it earlier plans to go to Disneyland that had fallen (twice in just over a week!) through were mysteriously revived when on Saturday Trish's mom told us she had some multi-day park hopper passes that still had a day left on them! So come Monday we took the chance and drove out to Anaheim:
I figured Monday was going to be quite relative to the previous few days on a holiday weekend yet we still expected some big crowds so we left early with the intention of getting there as early as possible.
Turns out I was right it was quieter... MUCH quieter!
We practically owned the park all day with exception of a few hours mid afternoon when things were at their busiest but we spent those hours eating lunch and hitting up the less than busy attractions. Believe it or not we only waited in ONE line for 20 minuets and that was Space Mountain as soon as we got there. The second longest line of the day? It was the tram to get to the parking garage to the park.
Also I finally got to go to California Adventure after all these years! Saw the Muppet thing, went on California Screaming which was a blast if not a little bit headache inducing and hit up Soaring Over California (the ONLY ride we used a Fastpass for all day!) which shockingly lived up to the hype after years of hearing how cool it is by countless people.
The highlight of the day was easily seeing Captain Eo for the first time since I was 13 or so. It's so dated, such a relic from an era long past and yet it was completely mesmerizing. As always Micheal Jackson was the phenomenal talent that he was and there was something electric about being in a packed theater of people cheering loudly when he made his fist appearance on the screen. If it was up to me it will be playing in Tomorrow Land for a long time to come it just seems to be... right.
He-he Minx couldn't resist a Captain Eo t-shirt.
(Try and tell me the Borg are not an HUGE Captian Eo rip off! Though I doubt we'll see Captain Picard defeat them with the power of dance anytime soon...)
Yet for as much fun as Disneyland was, as fun as seeing a new park (finally!), feeling the excitement like a kid in the Muppet theater (before the show.. it's a little lame) and enjoying the hell out of a mid-80's flashback nothing was better than just forgetting about EVERYTHING and enjoying the day with my best friend.
Just letting everything go and relaxing, spending the day with nothing on the agenda besides having fun with my wife was the best day I could have ever imagined. I'm not sure how to put it into words but: It felt like we spent the whole day as "ourselves" for the first time in a long while with nothing else on our minds or effecting us.
When they say Disneyland is magical and call it the "Happiest Place on Earth" I was always under the impression that they meant the park itself but for me on Monday it wasn't the park but the person I enjoyed it. Funny this post was inspired by Skita's Disney Shmoop-filled post, maybe that motto and tag has always referred to the people we enjoy that place with all along. :)
Regardless, nothing could have meant more to me than Monday so much so that yesterday was a breeze despite how crazy it was. Spending the day with my best friend was just what I needed it served a reminder of how lucky I am everyday to be able to call my wife that. It had been awhile since I really had given it any thought but it's scary sometimes just how well we fit each other in every way.
Oh... and making out in the Haunted Mansion was fun too >:)
Now I just want a vacation even more...
