So last week while poking around at the Goodwill, I found the steal of the century: someone had donated GOOD RECORDS. And a lot of them.

Most of the time, my Goodwill's record selection is lousy AT BEST: old Christmas albums, Time Life box sets of chamber music, church choirs, and country music so awful, even country fans probably wouldn't listen to them. I longed for the days when even my subburban WA Goodwill would occassionally have a handful of good records for me. Every once in a while, I'd find one or two gems, but this, my friends--this was the motherload.

I came home with 35 records. 35!! For the low, low price of about $14.

The best part was that my haul included not one, but TWO David Bowie record sets (not to mention a small pile of Bowie albums I didn't have). The first one being the Sound+Vision 6LP box. The cheapest one on ebay right now: $80. What I paid? $3
The second one being "Fashions", a 10-disc 45 picture disc collection in a binder.
The cheapest one on ebay right now: $70. What I paid? $2
These two things right here would be well worth the $14 I paid for the whole thing. (They don't even look like they've ever been played!)

Here's 2 of the picture discs. So cool!! I didn't have any picture discs in my collection before.

The other Bowie albums I got, including the Ziggy Stardust soundtrack! X3

And here's the other records I got...stuff from Led Zeppelin, Blondie, Joan Jett, Wings, Cheap Trick, Pat Benetar, The Pretenders, Queen, The Go Gos, Guns & Roses, Pink Floyd, and even a Billie Holiday album.

Needless to say, I was pretty damn happy. It kinda felt like fate--I almost didn't even go in that day, not to mention the clerk who thinks he knows a lot about everything wasn't there that day (he'll try to charge more for records he thinks are worth more than the few cents Goodwill usually charges for them, which I think is kind of unfair.) I was helped by a perky teenage girl who, while bagging all my records, asked me if I was "into oldies music" XD;; Geez.
There were even MORE records I could've bought and taken home, but since I had to ride home on the bus, well....I figured even 35 records was kinda pushing it. I also figured I shouldn't be too greedy--someone else might enjoy some of those old records, too! Though if there's still some in there the next time I go, some more might find their way home with me, too, I'll admit.

I love that nearly 90% of my records are either ones from thrift stores, used record stores, gifts, or my dad's collection. It makes me feel like each one is that more special. I know that might sound cheesy, but it was something I was thinking about while listening to a couple of records the other night. I can only think of 2 records I have that I bought brand-new so far in my collection. It's kinda nice.

Did anyone see the lunar eclipse this morning? I was bummed when I went outside and discovered the clouds were too thick to see it properly, so I watched a livestream of it...Oddly, my lamp's light bulb burnt out the moment the moon turned red. >__> Yeah, totally not spooky at all, right? I crawled back in bed soon after that, lol.

spooky, photos, collections, vinyl, geekery, blowing money, music
