Go Trippy Rez Action!

Went to Beach Gameland again to play IIDX. This time I brought my sister along to show her what the arcade version looked like. They replaced the old widescreen monitor with a new plasma screen. Unfortunately, it's already started to show burn-in, only a month since they got it. Ever since I had my new controller to practice my finger spacing, I did considerably better than my last visit there. I only stayed there for only 2 hours, though. Didn't play any new songs, besides the ones I love playing the most.

After having dinner at Outback (they had lots of kroko decorations there; wish I brought my camera), we went to the mall to get a present for Mom's b-day, where I found a game I didn't expect to see at EB Games. :D I finally, after 3 years of hearing about it, got myself a used, complete copy of Rez! This game, beside DDR, is what I really wanted to play on PS2. It's really a new experience. Not your usual form of videogame. To put it bluntly, it's pretty much a modernist/abstract Tron-like rail shooter with vector graphics set to electronic J-Tek music. The main idea of the game is that you're a computer hacker/avatar who tries to awaken and set free a futuristic A.I. that has gained self-awareness and self-doubt. The mood and the gaming experience of Rez is more artistic and surreal than anything, really. Pretty much, it's a hit or miss sort of thing; either you like it or not. This game was discussed in my "Videogames as Art" class last spring, so I got to know and love it. ^_^ Oh, by the way, this is the game that that infamous "Trance Vibrator" was packaged with in Japan. You're supposed to sit on it and feel the beat of the music during the game. Lead your own conclusions from that. :P
