Title: No Delicate Flower
Rating: PG
Character: Teyla Emmagen, Expedition
Summary: Atlantis' shields fail. [AU "Rising"]

…and there were still some left, a handful for them but so many in the standards of a culture that had to count every passing life. She didn’t know what to say, where to bring these survivors (because every planet was a collection of survivors as long as the Wraith still lived), so she took them to her home. And when they looked to her, all their commanders and leaders lost in the ocean depths, she told them be like the brayle plant, that blossomed and grew even when torn from its stem.

And they took her at her word.

Later, many cullings and firefights and bloody days later, when they had only put down enough roots to call the latest camp “base” and acknowledge the withered petals of “these were our friends” laying on the ground, Earth came again.

But by then, like the brayle planet, they could not go back.
