i adore ugly betty. i'm officially a huge fan. it's everything glossy american television should be. i'm loving ashley jensen in it. the woman is fabulous. and gorgeous with it.
now i'm watching celebrity big brother. which is cringe-worthy british television at its worst. hello, i have officially turned into the shallowest person in the free world.
i'm very much enjoying the pop culture phenomenon of jade goody re-entering the celebrity big brother house as a 'celebrity' after having gained 'celebrity' status by appearing on non celeb big brother first. the fact that the other 'celebrities' are being made to be jade's servants is a stroke of genius. that coupled with chantelle winning the last celebrity big brother as a 'non-celebrity' makes me want to just run out, quit my job, enrol in a cultural studies masters degree course and write copious amounts of papers dissecting what celebrity culture has become. i find this really exciting. i love the fact that society has degenerated to such an extent that it has made someone like jade a successful novelist and parfumier with three successful tv series. it is just so deliciously awful! i love it!
i really don't like the over-styled carbon copy glamourpuss jade has become. i preferred the real jade as she was. as she emerged from her limo tonight with her boyfriend, her entrance was that of a third rate posh and becks in the 'matching his and hers black leather' phase. still, i suppose she has to aspire to something!
incidentally, i met jade over the summer while at my work office party at walthamstow dog track. there's nothing like racing dogs and scampi and chips in a basket on a night out, that's what i say! you put that in the mix with a bucket full of lambrini and you're practically guaranteed carnage of the highest order! i'd love to tell you jade is 100% the odious creature you see on television. she isn't. she's much prettier, a lot more stylish and much less stupid. like jordan, she's a caricature of herself and the very secret of her success is playing up to it! i really do wish her all the luck in the world.
on a sidenote - does anyone hate russell brand as much as i do? he has the stupidest hair on television. not to mention the absolute ridiculousness that comes out of his mouth!
