Take this sinking boat and point it home

The llama is working on her physical fitness and mental health: 3rd day of jazzercise in a row! My muscles are protesting (and I'm icing my achey foot), but my mind feels good. (Once of the stretching routines was to Glen Hansard's "Falling Slowly", which I now have stuck in my head...) I have been engaging in culinary adventures, inspired by recipes from NYTimes and NPR and the fact that M. won't eat them, I have made in the last few days ratatouille and arroz verde and for M, plain cheese lasagna. I also made a wednesday trip to the farmer's market which was fun and supplied much of the produce for the above dishes. Class is good and I just applied for a part time biology position for this fall, so we'll see.

I've been entertained lately by Oregon State University's Octocam, gakked from truepenny, which is pretty darned awesome. The streaming video star's Deriq the Giant Pacific Octopus (though as of this post, Deriq is hiding in one of the nooks/crannies and a large seastar is mugging for the in-tank camera.) Per the schedule, there is a feeding at 1pm Pacific (3 pm Central)- live rock crabs! Per teh intarwebs, the giant pacific octopus' intelligence is about that of the housecat, they are fierce sneaky predators and pounce of their prey. Deriq may be give Alice a run for her money a my favorite predator. (Just Kidding, Alice!) The staff gives Deriq toys to play with, like a peanut butter jar with food inside, so he has to unscrew the lid. Oh, and you have to snuggle the octopus, too: Per the OctoFAQ, "Finally, on a daily basis, someone on-staff is physically stimulating the octopus with gentle touches and strokes." Snuggle-octopus?
