When
gryffin23 and I were freshlings, we stumbled across the internet phenomenon known as
David Duchovny, why won't you love me? by Bree Sharp which you can watch
here. For those of you who don't remember, David Duchovny played Fox Mulder on the X-files, as the FBI agent who "wanted to believe." Anyway, Gryffin and I thought this was possibly the most hilarious thing ever (next to the
dancing hamsters) and watched it over and over again. In a fit of nostalgia inspired by reference on the Neil Gaiman blog (of all places), I had to search it out on You Tube.
The internet has been good to me this week. Not only have I discovered a treasure trove of cephalopod-related videos online (Check out
Caroline the Giant Pacific Octopus at the National Zoo!) Sparked by questions from my Fellows classes, I have discovered
multicultural markers and the debate over Afrocentric education (i.e. how "Black" were the ancient Egyptians"?) Very weird stuff. Also a search for "burqini" turned up the most interesting assortment of sites that sell modest bathing suits (I'm more interested in sun-protection than modesty, except a bathing suit with more coverage eliminates the need for the unpleasant sort of societally mandated bathing suit-associated "grooming" - something I can do without.)
Nicholas Kristof at the NYTimes recommends funding
mine-sniffing Giant African pouched rats as a Father's day gift. These are pretty awesome (and seriously cute!) Check out their website
here. Giant African Pouched Rats (or Gambian pouched rats) imported into the US were thought to be responsible for a 2003 outbreak of
monkeypox that appeared in prairie dogs. They are also considered
highly invasive in the Florida Everglades.
