First, this week was the ice storm that wasn't. I guess after the whomping the weather system gave to Oklahoma, people were expecting inches of ice, downed power lines and mass hysteria. Luckily, the road crews kept the streets clear (magic beet juice?) I went to work on Tuesday, but left early after hearing weather reports that the storm was going to get worse. Except they cancelled the ice storm after I got home. I still had to make up the hours, but it wasn't bad because I've been busy at work.
I have my own QDRO folders to review, now! Which is good, because we're swamped. The irony is, after I received my employee benefits grade last spring, I never thought I would be directly applying ERISA every day at work.
Mostly have been turning into a creature of the dark, ala Gollum. In the morning, I leave the house when its dark. I stay inside all day under fluorescent lights. Then I leave work when it's dark. I've gotten a "natural light" lamp from the hardware store. I'm going to set it up and see if makes a difference in my mood. Strangely, my coworker has found that houseplants do very well under the fluorescent glow of our office. She's got all kinds of plants, which really cheer up the otherwise cubicle-ness of it all. Also, there are corporate banks of philodendron, one of which has decided to flow luxuriantly over the walls of my cube, which makes me happy. I need little plastic creatures to live in its twining vines. Maybe a toucan. or a Monkey.
Have been engaged in negotiations, then detente with our microfiche machine. Some of our records from before 2002 are stored on fiche. The machine lets up and lets me read them, but there is a malfunction in the SCSI cable that connects it to our computer to save the image. So I've just been writing down the numbers.
The IT guy came up yesterday and worked on it for over and hour, with no luck. However, I did get to improve my personal edification for loading drivers for weird peripheral hardware. He concluded it was some kind of hardware error and decided it was time to call the Microfiche repairman (which is a different dept than IT.) The last time I called the corporate IT help desk, the guy was like, "You still have microfiche machines?" Although pleasant, not very helpful. Mostly have been doing other things that do not involve microfiche.
Last night, it snowed. Alice likes to marvel at it out the window. Of course, we don't let her out into it. (i'm not sure she'd like it, even if we did.)
Mitch has started lighting the fire in our fireplace, which makes our recroom really cozy. (It was freezing before, probably because of the draft coming thru the open flue.)
ice,
