M. was watching
The Blues Brothers this morning. I walked in the scene where Elwood and Jake are singing with Cab Calloway's band...I love that part.
To all the people who made the past few days fun:
Grandma Fanny comes to visit and we abuse her. We make her cook, clean and do dishes. And then we don't even talk to her. But she returns for holidays year after year. But I think she may be reaching the end of her tether. Thursday afternoon, I finished early since I no longer have VITA. I came into KC to show Grandma a good time. We went to the grocery store to get some fish and vegetable and crusty bread for supper. I think it was most fun she had all week. We also watched Bernard-Henri Levi on Charlie Rose (really hosted by Adam Gopnik b/c Rose is out sick) talk about French society. She showed me how to purl my yarnovers to get a consistent pattern of holes in my lace scarf. Dropping yarnovers can be a problem. My mom looked over my shoulder, "That looks like it was made by a demented bee."
"Spider, Mom." I corrected, "Demented Spider." (BTW, Demented Spider would be a good name for a band.)
I also spent some quality time with Elmo and Molly. They were soooo happy to have someone pay attention to them. Elmo tried to hump my leg, but I put him in his doggy place. (I am dominant over all of you dogs). However, I think his claws left some exciting bruises on my leg. Elmo respects my superior position in the pack once I remind him. I also demonstrated to Grandma that Molly is actually quite a lot of fun if you give her the right kind of attention.
Friday morning, the KS Bar Assn hosted a CLE on "Issues affecting the rights of the GLBT community." Since this also covered estate planning and tax issues, I was particularly interested. I called up the Bar Assn and it turns out they will comp law students for free at CLEs. The meeting took place the OP Doubletree, minutes from Chez Parents, enabling my sleepover and Grandma and dog time. I only stayed for the first couple of lectures because I had to make it to Lawrence in time for BA II. (I [heart] insider trading caselaw.) Still, I talked to a few attorneys and got contact info from the list for several more. Yay networking!
Saturday morning, in the rain, I took my friend Naomi to find a low-priced tv to replace her broken one. We had a really good time. We also made a trip to the grocery store to check out their video selection (being a factor in whether N. was ready to purchase a built in DVD or VHS player). Target ended up having a reasonable 19" TV which fit into my car fairly easily and which we could maneuver into her apt. Then I came home ate lunch, talked to my sister-llama and Grandma, then took a very long and wonderful nap.
I've decided to bite the bullet today and study business tax. But first, I went to Jazzercise to take some of the sting out. Jennifer really works you! She is a hard core lady, but reminds me somewhat of my sister-llama. Always ravenous after exercising, I came home to eat a 2nd breakfast. (Interlude: "Don't think he knows about 2nd breakfast, Pip.") Now I must take a shower and gird my loins for the library. .
