Huh, it's been a while, since I had to split an entry.

--

Keith looked up from the newspaper in surprise when he heard giggling outside the door. He’d recognize his daughter’s laughter anywhere. Curious, he leaned back in his stool and tried to peek out the window to see whom she was with. Surprise settled over him when he saw that it was Logan that was drawing such amusement out of his daughter. His eyes widened when the boy leant down to kiss Veronica’s lips and she did nothing to stop him.

Standing to his feet, Keith opened the front door wide and pretended shock to find the pair on his doorstep.

They wrenched apart, both trying to pretend that nothing had happened.

“I’m sorry, I thought I heard something,” Keith said innocently. He held his arms wide, drawing his daughter into a hug. “You’re back.”

“Hi, Dad.” Veronica leaned into his embrace. “Did you miss me?”

“I didn’t, but Backup sure did.” He kissed her forehead. “How was your trip? Did you have fun?” He glanced at Logan, including the boy into the conversation.

“It was a blast,” she smiled widely, her golden tan supporting her words. “We surfed, danced and ate to our hearts’ content.”

Logan smirked and simply said, “It was nice.”

Keith studied the pair. “So you two…?”

Veronica rolled her eyes. “Yes, we’re back together and no, you don’t have to worry.”

“I was going to say, ‘so you two are going to be too tired for dinner?’” he grinned, trying to cover up him being a concerned parent.

Of course Veronica knew her father better than that, but she shrugged it off and took Logan’s hand, dragging him further into the apartment. “We’ll be in my room. Call us when ‘dinner’ is ready.”

--

Mac waved Veronica and Logan over when she spotted them in the student union. “How are you guys?”

“Wonderful,” the blond said, overly peppy as she dragged her boyfriend behind her. “I got into all my classes and have some pretty decent professors.”

“And she managed to freak out Chip Diller and the rest of his merry band on her way here,” Logan smirked. “You?”

“I’ve been pretty good.”

The girls took seats at an empty table before Logan wandered off to purchase lunch for Veronica.

Mac smiled at Veronica. “So how are you and Logan doing?”

“Good so far.”

“You seem happy.”

“I am happy.” Veronica trailed her fingers along the tabletop, drawing random patterns as she spoke.

“I guess it helped that you locked yourselves together in Logan’s room for three days last week.”

Mac, Max and Dick had left the two alone as the couple griped at each other during those three days in Brazil. The shouting and screaming had gotten so bad near the end that Mac and Dick had been considering breaking the two of them up. It was a good thing they hadn’t, because soon after the outburst, the feuding couple had reunited and had engaged in some extremely loud, extremely inventive makeup sex.

Veronica shrugged like it was nothing, but knew that those three days had meant everything to them. “We hashed everything out. Laid out some guidelines.”

“So everything’s working out?”

“So far. It has only been a week.” She had no illusions about her relationship. Both Logan and Veronica would need to work hard for things to work out this time around. And they both wanted it to work.

Mac suddenly sat up straighter. “Did you guys by any chance have a conversation about Parker?”

“She was mentioned.”

“Did you mention how you would handle a meeting with her?”

Veronica’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Why?”

“She’s coming this way.”

The blond turned in her seat to give a quick glance toward the approaching blond. “She doesn’t look happy, does she?”

“Not a chance.”

Reorienting herself in her chair, Veronica asked Mac, “Have you talked to her since you got back?”

“Only to tell her that she needed to find a new roommate. Max and I decided to share a place this year.”

“Living with your boyfriend. Bold move. Congrats.”

“Thanks.”

They were interrupted by Parker stopping beside Veronica. “You and Logan got back together?”

“We did.”

Parker released a bitter chuckle. “You were just waiting for him to breakup with me, weren’t you? Biding your time until he was free again.”

“There was no way I could’ve known that you were going to cheat on him,” Veronica said stiffly.

“But you wanted him back. You wanted him back and you let him know it.”

“I never said anything to him. I never alluded to anything either.”

“But he knew. He knew and he stopped paying attention to me.”

“Logan never stopped paying attention to you,” Mac interrupted, defending her sort-of friend. “You guys spoke constantly over the summer. He went to Denver to visit you and even paid so that you could come on the trip with us. He never ignored you.”

Parker scoffed, “Because surfing and drinking with Dick is his way of spending time with me.”

“That was his way of relaxing and spending a vacation in South America. And comforting a friend whose dad just got sent to prison for a year. Not everything has to be about you.”

The blonde’s arms crossed over her chest defensively. “If she hadn’t been there, Logan and I wouldn’t have broken up.”

“Logan broke up with you because you cheated on him,” Veronica said bluntly.

“I wouldn’t have cheated on him if he hadn’t been pining after you.” The words were out of her mouth before she could stop them. Her eyes narrowed into a glared when their eyes glazed over with disgust.

“Why don’t you leave us alone, Parker?” Mac’s lips pursed. “We have nothing more to say to you.”

“I’ll leave when I’ve finished what I have to say.”

Veronica turned to give her her full attention.

“I thought you were my friend. I thought you were helping me when I had problems with Logan, but it was all an act. You think I didn’t notice, but I did. You pretended to help me even as you were sidling up to him being his friend, dropping little hints that you were interested, so that he would forget about me. Well, congratulations! It worked! He tossed me aside and took you right back! I hope you’re happy,” she finished bitterly.

Having listened to the resentful ranting, Veronica stood to face off against Parker. “First of all, I was your friend and I was trying to help you. And if you call being Logan’s friend ‘sidling up to him,’ then I would have to say that you need new glasses that don’t say ‘jealous bitch’ all over them. Secondly, he tossed you aside because you are a cheating whore who jumped into bed with the first guy that showed you any interest. If you’d have kept your knees together, I’m pretty sure you and Logan would still be together right now.” She paused to take a breath. “And finally, the fact that Logan and I got back together has nothing to do with you. If you want to get bitchy and complain that I stole your boyfriend, let me remind you that Logan was mine well before he was ever yours.”

“Why, Veronica, I never knew you felt that way about me.” Logan had a wide grin on his face as his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against him. He bent to place a kiss on the side of her neck. “I’m yours? Does that mean I can claim ownership rights of you?”

Veronica blushed, trying to hide her face from him. “Maybe,” she said evasively.

He continued to grin. “We’ll continue this discussion later.” Turning to Parker, his happy expression turned to one of gloom and doom. “I thought I said I never wanted to see you again.”

“Logan,” she said desperately, “let me explain.”

“What’s there to explain? You decided to get drunk and cheat on me. There’s not much more to say.” Logan’s voice remained hard with just a hint of snark, as he shifted to move in front of Veronica. “What? Did you think you could give me some sob story that Cole got you drunk to trick you into bed and that I would take you back? Let me tell you something about Cole. He might not be smart enough to not sleep with my girlfriend, but he sure the hell is smart enough not to initiate anything.”

“It was a mistake.” Parker’s eyes were tearing up.

“One that I’m not willing to forgive,” he said coldly. “I’ve had girlfriends cheat on me before. In fact, one of them even had an affair with my father. I’ve learned not to put up with it.” He gave her a derisive once over. “And you, you’re not worth it anyway.”

Parker’s breath hitched, her face flamed red in pain and embarrassment, and she fled.

“That was a little harsh,” Mac commented.

“This coming from the girl who was about to bitch-slap her?” Logan smirked.

She shrugged, “She deserved it. She was getting on my nerves.”

Veronica hugged him, gazing at his empty hands. “Where’s my lunch?”

--

Wallace swung the door wide in answer to the incessant tapping on his dorm room door. “What?”

Veronica grinned wide and held her arms open for a hug. “You’re back!”

He pulled her into a hug. “You don’t know how to knock anymore?”

“Where’s the fun in that?”

“So instead, you tap on my door? Are you trying to make me go insane?”

She settled on to his bed, waiting for him to take a seat on his chair. “So how was Africa?”

Wallace spent the next half hour detailing his experience working with the volunteers of Invisible Children. It was… an experience. “I think I did some good. I might go back next summer.”

She smiled at him. “I’m proud of you. I missed you when you were gone. And I’ll miss you if you decide to go again, but I’m so proud of you.”

“How was your summer with the Feds?” He grinned, “Did you learn any new trade secrets? Take down some criminal masterminds? Blackmail people for information?”

“All of the above,” she laughed jokingly. “No, seriously, it was an amazing experience. And I was actually involved in some of their cases. I might even get to go back next summer and actually get paid.”

“Before you get into the details of your first love, you better fill me in on second love.”

“What?”

“Hello, you and Logan? I’ve been gone all summer-”

“And I have to dish?” she teased. “How much of a girl are you?”

“Hey, everybody wants to know. This defies gender boundaries.”

She rolled her eyes and then brought him up to date on the events of the last three weeks of summer break.

“Parker cheated on Logan with Cole?” His eyes bugged out in disbelief. He faintly remembered Cole from high school and what he did remember did not paint a good picture. “Didn’t that guy get like a ninety on the purity test?”

“Ninety-one.”

“And he decided to lose some points by getting himself killed?”

“Logan didn’t kill him.” She bit her lip. “Just beat the crap out of him and then threw him out of the house without any clothes.”

“He was butt-naked?”

“Not a pretty sight.” She shuddered in disgust at the memory.

Wallace asked, “Did he make it back State-side, okay?”

She tilted her head. “You know, I don’t know. He doesn’t go to Hearst.” She shook her head, “Casey would’ve told me if Cole hadn’t shown up back at school.”

Wallace nodded. “So Logan kicked Parker to the curb and you swooped in.”

“I didn’t swoop. There was no swooping. We’re friends. I was just making sure he was okay.”

“Comforting him; offering him a shoulder to cry on.”

“Exactly, I was being a friend.”

“But you ended up back together?”

She shrugged. “Logan and I… we never just talk.”

“So talking about Parker led to talking about you?”

“Talking about bad relationships led to talking about our relationship,” Veronica corrected.

“And from there, the two of you decided to get back together.”

“It wasn’t an impulsive thing. We discussed everything - what was wrong every time we were together… what was right,” she trailed off.

“When you mean you talked about everything-”

“I mean everything. From the day I told Lilly about Logan and Yolanda till now. Everything.”

“And you both made it out of that room alive?”

She laughed, “We almost didn’t. I could have strangled him so many times.”

“The Madison thing?”

Signs that Wallace was indeed her BFF. Veronica nodded soberly. “We talked about it.”

“And?”

“I realized that my problem was never with Logan sleeping with her when we were broken up. My problem was with Madison.”

“You hate the ground she walks on and the air she breathes.”

“I figured I was okay when the swirly, icky images in my head disappeared and were replaced by beautiful ideas for spiteful revenge against the heinous bitch.”

“I’m not going to have to bail you out of jail, am I?”

“One stint in a jail cell is enough for me.”

Wallace smacked his forehead. “What am I thinking? Like you’d ever let yourself get caught?”

“I don’t know. The sheriff is a pretty sharp guy.”

“How does your dad feel about your reunion?”

“I think he was surprised, but he’s withholding judgment for the moment.”

“Meanwhile, he’s planning Logan’s ‘disappearance’ if the boy steps out of line.”

Veronica laughed again, knowing just how right he was. She looked around Wallace’s new dorm. “So who’s your roommate this year? Anyone interesting?”

“As a matter of fact-” Wallace glanced at the door and as if on cue, the roommate entered.

Veronica looked too. Her eyes opened wide and her lips formed an ‘O’. She exchanged glances with Wallace before greeting the boy. “Hi, Piz. How was your summer?”

“Veronica!” Piz said in awkward surprise. “How are you?”

“Good. You?”

“Good!” He stuttered, “I hear that you and Logan got back together.”

“Yeah,” she answered, “last week.”

“Great!”

Wallace smirked at his roommate juggling his boxes. “You need some help there?”

“I’m good,” Piz said just as all the boxes tumbled to the ground. “See, that’s exactly where I wanted them.”

Veronica realized then exactly how wrong she was to have gone out with Piz in the spring. He was a nice, amusing guy, but he wasn’t exactly her type. She grabbed her bag and stood. “I’ll leave you boys to unpack. I’ve got a date with the library administrator. Make sure I still have my job at the Help Desk.”

--

Seated behind the counter of the Help Desk, Veronica turned when someone dinged the little bell. “How can I help-” She stopped when she realized who it was and grinned. “What are you doing here? I thought you were going to pick me up later at Mac’s.”

Logan leaned over the counter to give her a quick kiss. “I thought I’d stop by and pick up some books I need for my Sociology II class.”

“You need books for class?” she teased.

“Several.”

“And why don’t you just purchase these books at the campus bookstore?”

“Thought I’d just collect some rather hefty library fines so that I would be called down to speak to the Help Desk girl.”

“Oh, really.”

“Maybe exchange some sexual favors to have my record wiped clean.”

“Hmm, I’m intrigued.” She took the hand that he offered her. “What kind of sexual favors?”

He guided her around the desk and led her out the library door. “Oh, the best kind.”
