Early to bed in order to rise early and experience Harry Potter IMAX in the morning. Mixed feeeeeelings... Deathly Hallows wasn't my favorite book ever, and in fact there are certain aspects of it that REALLY REALLY BOTHER ME A LOT, and I know I'm just going to get upset all over again about character deaths... but, honestly, this series more than ( Read more... )

I think I've managed to accept the fact that the last two books were something of a disappointment and separate it from my overall fannish love of the series. In the case of Half-Blood Prince, it worked because the film was FUCKING AWESOME and fixed all of (most of) the things I didn't like about the book; in the case of Deathly Hallows... well, honestly, all of the things I didn't like about the book were still in the film (send all the Slytherins to the dungeons are you kidding me uggghhhhh I can't deal with this shit honestly) so that didn't make much of a difference. I guess maybe it's still the same "end of childhood" thing that makes it have such a heavy hold? The book came out when I was almost finished with college so it meant more about finishing up student life and moving on... and now this year has been so many "HI YOU'RE AN ADULT NOW AND YOUR CHILDHOOD IS GONE FOREVER" events, some of them okay but most of them super shitty, and Harry Potter is just the ultimate in completely stubborn, no no I'll never let go youth nostalgia. Also... hmm, I know there are a lot of fans who are more invested in the plot/story but don't give two hoots about Harry himself, but I feel like towards the end I become the exact opposite? Plotting elements in 6/7 annoy me and yet my love of Harry is enough to keep me going through it and cheering for the good guys. WHATEVER, HATERS. Harry goes through so much and yet still comes out the other side, and in the end he's the hero not because he's the Chosen One but because he's a genuinely good person with love and forgiveness in his heart, and B'AWWWW HARRY I'M SO PROUD OF YOU AND THE THINGS YOU CHOOSE TO BE oh gosh I'm gonna cry again so I'll stop here.
