"Actually, I'm pissed. For one thing, I'm only a quarter of the way through War and Peace."

My sister, home for the holidays, has recently taken up harassing me for episodes of SGA to catch up with. OH, BEING FORCED TO WATCH TV. MY LIFE IS SO HARD. So we're in the middle of season three right now, just got through the two-parter -- and, well. Just sayin'. BUT. Those episodes can totally be retconned to where John returns with the primary motivation of rescuing Woolsey, right? RIGHT. Of course I'm right. Awww, I love those two. HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO "VEGAS"? IS IT JANUARY 2ND YET???

Speaking of other shows recently on hiatus -- no Chuck until February! Or Pushing Daisies until... January or February, probably! Or Merlin until later than that! So a brief last-gasp-of-2008 babble about each:

At first I was not hugely into this episode of Chuck because, well, when the wacky hostage situation kicked in all I could think about was "Gus Walks Into a Bank" and how Psych totally did that premise so much better (fair exchange for Gary Cole ROCKING THE FACE OFF of "Chuck vs. the Delorean" when I thought his character was just so-so on Psych). But then at about the halfway point... um. WHAT. HOLY CRAP. I WAS EXPECTING VAGUELY SCREWBALL ANTICS AND A LOW-LEVEL THREAT OF VIOLENCE, BUUUUT. I. WHAAAAT. I can't believe Casey lost a toe! The man does not know how to have a good Christmas, does he? His Crown Vic last year, and now his precious appendages? So sad... And also, whoa. Sarah. I love her so much. I know sometimes I grouch about Chuck/Sarah but I was really really into them this week. I knew he was going to call her when they got a chance to "phone a loved one" (although, ahahaaaa, Casey and his mother XD XD XD), and! The bracelet! Awww! Also much 'awww' to be add on the Awesome/Ellie front! So anyway, I thought it struck a really great balance between relationship meatiness and plot nitty gritty, and, gah, I'm ready for new episodes, like, now.

Ma-a-a-an, stuff has been going down on Pushing Daisies lately! Mysterious pasts! Old flames! Reappearances! Disappearances! What! And I still haven't quite figured out the familial/romantic entanglements of the various Charles' and the various... whatever Ned's surname is (does he have one?? I'm drawing a total blank). Lily and Vivian are swiftly becoming my favourite part of the show, and they break my heart on a weekly basis. Also! Olive! I guess I didn't post about last week, but the Olive/Emerson was amazing so I'm glad they played more with her role within their little gumshoeing engine -- especially because! OOOOMMMMGGGG!!!! IVANA MILČEVIĆ!! OH YES I WAS SO TOTALLY SHIPPING HER AND OLIVE IN A SERIOUS WAY. It's probably due in large part to the fact that, in compiling my massive (OH MY GOD IT IS GETTING SO FRIGGEN MASSIVE) TV of 2008 post, I was just picspamming "Chuck vs. the Undercover Lover" and gushing over how amazing Casey/Ilsa is so I've been in this big I ♥ Ivana mood lately, but even without that... ohhhh man I'm crushing so hard. And she was amazing in this so now my love has no choice but to grow stronger.

Actually, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the season finale of Merlin, if only because I'm still reeling from how off-the-charts-AMAZING 1.12 was. Not that 1.13 was bad or anything, but just more... predictably dramatic, I guess? Which in some ways is understandable because, hi, it's the finale, there are certain things that have to be wrapped up in certain ways. And in that sense... DUDE. ARTHUR/MERLIN. Is so far from subtext. Really, the single goal of the finale seemed to be declaring Arthur/Merlin as the one integral emotional, dramatic, romantic, dynamic core to the show (because, dudes, where was all the good Morgana interaction? Although I must admit Gwen was quite fantastic, what with the nighttime comforting of Morgana and then the pair of excellent scenes with Arthur. Up to this point Gwen/Arthur has been pretty much the only permutation of the quartet that I don't ship, but I might have to start, if only because of the pointed way Arthur always enunciates her full name).

I AM SO GLAD GAIUS DIDN'T DIE. Thanks, Merlin, for not pulling a Robin Hood. HEY LOOK EVERYONE A SHOW THAT CAN BE DARING AND ENGAGING AND YET NOT SOUL-DESTROYING. WHAT A NOVELTY. Even though I don't have any giant OMG FLAIL over this episode, I still want to give an OMG FLAIL anyway for how good this season was as a whole. Thanks, guys, for all the shiny new canon! For bringing back my old actor loves and for introducing new ones! For having gorgeous ladies and dashing lads and fun adventures and atmospheric sets and swirly costumes! Now the long wait for series two... at least I will have Robin Hood to distract me between now and then, right? Ha. Ahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA. Sorry, just thinking about that show sends me into an odd mental state of commingled pain and pleasure. Should be... interesting.

ETA: HAAAAAAAAA OMG I HAVE A DATE TO GO SEE "TWILIGHT" TOMORROW. LOLLLLLL.

ETA2: BOY DO I EVER NEED TO GO TO BED ALREADY.
