You know, I feel I've gotten into a rut with my Chuck reactions: blah blah gender/race politics whine whine Chuck can be an ass blah blah DO ME CASEY whine whine other stuff. True, there are many things that irk me about the show on a regular basis. But you know what? Tonight's episode was so overwhelmingly adorable that I am going to refrain from making any negative comments. Were there things I didn't like? Sure! But on the whole I think it was born of a genuine spirit of goodness which I am determined to support now lest it go away in the future. So -- negative-free review! Instead let's relive the many things to love in "Chuck vs. the Cougars"!
-BEN SAVAGE SDFLJK;ASDFIOA;WEJK;LFSDA;JA OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG HOW COULD I NOT LOVE THIS EPISODE??!?!!!? Also I break out this personal factoid at every possible opportunity, but I TOTALLY MET BEN SAVAGE WHEN I WAS LIKE TEN AND IT WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE. Sadly, I am only barely exaggerating about that last part... seriously, few things have been able to measure up in awesome. ANYWAY OMG OMG OMG I LOVE HIS LITTLE BRILLO-PAD HEAD.
-WEE!SARAH! IS SO FRIGGEN CUTE! Holy whoa they did a good job in making her look younger, too. Everyone else in the flashback was like, "Hmmm, yeah, thirty-year-old stuffed into a letterman jacket," but she was a very very believable high schooler.
-CASEY. CAAAAAASEY. Okay, first of all, this episode was completely auspicious timing because, as I'm sure you've noticed, I've been in a total pop music regression mode lately so taking a trip back to 1998 was basically like reliving my music playlist over the past few weeks. When they walked into the reunion and "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" was playing -- heeee! I would say, "Ahh, nostalgia!" if I hadn't just been listening to it last night, so... yeah. On top of that, "Mmmbop" got me all giggly about House, so I was already positively predisposed to the dance tunes... and then... OH MY GOD CASEY WAS THE DJ HAAAAAAAAA. HOW FITTING. How cute was he getting his groove on? I don't know if I've complained about this yet (wait! I said no negative comments! Err... it's going to turn into a positive, anyway), but I think it's kind of unfair that Casey always has to be the waiter and/or bartender. When does he get a sexy cover, huh? Well, DJ is certainly a step in the right direction, and he was just having so much FUN! How could you not smile at that scene?
-Also, um, Casey getting all hot and bothered by bomber jets. And Chuck getting generally... bothered by his bothering. Um. Anyway. It was hot.
-And them playing good cop/bad cop(/"Mad Dog", ha). Nnnnnggh yes please more thank you.
-Buy More! I think the two plots dovetailed quite cleverly this week, actually, with the whole let's-revisit-high-school-traumas theme, although at first I was a bit skeptical because the entire Buy More angle rested on "Lester is not only an ineffective leader but actually just a complete and total brainless dumbfuck, now that we think about it" -- which... okay. If you have to do some nonsensical plot device gymnastics just to make a storyline fit, maybe it's not such a great idea after all. But they worked it out! The morning after scene was so genuinely touching! Morgan reminding Lester that he doesn't need to be afraid because people really are good at heart was... wow. Surprisingly sweet! Who saw that one coming? Don't worry, Lester, I shed a tear as well. Actually, for all my fellow Laura Ingalls Wilder nerds out there, it reminded me of that scene from Farmer Boy where Almanzo throws the brush at Eliza Jane and stains the oh-so-perfect wallpaper in the parlor -- but instead of getting the whipping of a lifetime when his parents get home, he finds that, unbeknownst to him, Eliza Jane covered up the mark and never told anybody about what he did. Aw!
