Time for Part 2! Today, I will cover the Exhibition Hall at SDCC, which was insane! It took me five days to explore it and I still ended up missing things! >_<
The displays inside the exhibition hall were absolutely huge! Most booths were large, with displays and banners that went up to the ceiling of the convention center.
Profiles in History was one of the first booths I noticed! They had replicas of all the different versions of Iron Man, as well as a life size model of an AMP suit from Avatar.
So hard to get pictures because of the amount of people! Everyone kept stopping to pose for pictures with the replicas (or pretty much any free standing statues or mascots wandering the floor) >_<
A lot of booths had mascots walking around. Pokemon had a lifesize Pikachu! Their booth also had a setup with multiple gaming stations.
Other booths had statues or lifesize models. Think this is from Hasbro's booth? They had Bumblebee on display, as well as his car version. They were right next to or apart of the same booth that had the motorcycles from Tron Legacy. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a picture of those because you had to wait in a very long line for that...
Star Wars, of course, had their very own pavilion! They had statues of all the characters from the Clone Wars cartoon, and, on the jumbotron above, ran the movies and episodes from the cartoons all weekend long. They also had a store, which I did some souvenir shopping at. ^_^;
They also had costumes from the movies on display!
And replica costumes from other movies you could buy for much moneys. ^_^; Griffindor uniforms started at over $300!
Some things were put out randomly, as if companies were trying to squeeze in as much stuff as possible. Don't know what booth this was a part of but...yay! Iron man!
I think the Marvel booth was meant to trump all other booths because it featured Thor's throne. Unfortunately, it was pretty dull. Supposedly, at special times, the Marvel people would come out of the doors with famous people in tow to make announcements and such. Robert Downey Jr. was there last year for Iron Man (or so I was told). Of course, nothing much was happening the multiple times I passed by.
BE STILL MY HEART! <3 Square Enix had original drawings and acrylic paintings from Hiromu Arakawa on display!!!
To think, I own one of her artbooks with some of these pictures! They are so beautiful in real life!
Her skills are just amazing!
They also had originals from the artists of Black Butler, Durarara, and Soul Eater on the other side of the display. Black Butler art was fantastically detailed!
Al was also present! <3
Many companies had booths which featured up and coming, limited, and/or popular figures on display for fans to salivate over. Most of them were collector-aimed figures and were easily over a hundred dollars each. I paused briefly to drool over this beautiful Saber figure before moving on...
Uglydoll also had mascots in attendance! Their booth featured a giant wall with plushes that were all for sale.
Lego booth, of course!
Had trouble photographing poor R2. Some dumb guy kept feeling him up the whole time I was trying to take the photo. -_-
Life size Harry, Hermione, and Hagrid were posed on the opposite side!
Pretty impressive! I wonder how long it took to make them?
Game companies pulled out all the stunts to promote their products, too. At the Red Faction booth, you actually got to crawl inside the giant mecha to play the game! Line was so long, I didn't even attempt that.
NUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! NOT THE END! This was the back of the WB booth, which was so crowded, I could never get in. They handed out new limited goodies daily, and always ended up closing the lines before I got there.
I discovered on Sunday that WB also had...Horcruxes! They had other movie props from Harry Potter on display, too, but because of the lines, I could never get in.T_T
Also had the Invisiblity cloak! >_<
Discovered Kermie and Rizo on Sunday, too!
Gonzo was there, as well! I think they made a special appearance that day. ^^ They also had other muppets at an exhibit across the street from the convention center at the Marriott Hotel. Passed by it, but didn't have a chance to stop by.
If you couldn't already tell, companies like Hasbro, Luscasfilm, Legos, Kotobukiya, Wacom, Pokemon, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, etc. all had booths with activities, games, prizes that fans could win. Most booths handed out free items (like bags, backpacks, buttons)- basically things you could carry around and give them free advertisement at the same time. This made it hard to get to see some things because fans lined up early to get free swag. This made the lines extremely long, to the point that companies only opened the lines up for a limited time each day.
Adult Swim's booth was one of a few that I was able to get into. I won a set of Robot Chicken magnets from them!
One of my favorite booths was the one for Gentle Giant. They had tons of large scale figures and models. Most lovely of all was a life size Neytiri statue! Even if you're not an Avatar fan, you couldn't help but stop and take a picture of her. It was also quite hilarious to watch people walking because most fan boys passing through attempted to look up her loincloth. XD Lucky for her, the sculptor made sure she was wearing a thong underneath. ^_~
My absolute favorite booth was.....
...Alien Anthology Booth!
It featured hibernation chambers which you could go inside! It was too awesome not to pass up!
I probably waited 1 1/2 to 2 hours in line. When you got into the chambers, the people running the booth locked you inside.
Each chamber featured a tiny television monitor that played a trailer for the movie trilogy coming out on Blue Ray. The screen was a little annoying, as it was inches from your face, but I couldn't help but giggling all the way through with ultimate nerd joy!
When you came out, they gave you a free shirt that read "Need a hug?" They only had extra large t shirts *sigh* but it was still fun. They also handed out alien "face-hugger" fan/mask thingies, too.
The line actually ended at me! And I got to hold the official END OF LINE sign! So glad I got in line in time!
That's all for now! Next post will be Panel pictures!
