In July, we had Scarlett's 15-month checkup and all is well. She remains in the 90th percentile for height and is simply growing like a weed. Her lightish-curly hair has taken over her head and she's more vocal than ever. No real words just yet, but she can answer simple questions and point out certain things. It's absolutely mind-blowing to see this little creature truly start to interact and communicate with the people around her. I suspect she'll be talking at least a little in a matter of weeks to a month or two. On the other hand, she's also become more and more of a toddler and a handful. She's opinionated and although she's not mean, she sure does do what she wants when she wants. She still screeches and screams quite loudly but it's all for her own amusement. Thankfully, she is a rather happy thing and almost everything interests her. I hope she carries that curiosity into her entire life.
Right at Independence Day, my workplace shut down for the whole week affording us a chance to unwind. We had planned to have Nicole's parents come from California but they had a minor illness leading up to the trip so they had to delay coming an entire week. It was a little awkward having visitors around during a work week, but that's how it goes with family. It was a very mellow week, actually. We didn't do a whole lot and we barely did any of the home improvement assignments that I had thought up when they were gonna be here for the shutdown week. But it's all good. There was even a heat wave while they were here and we realized that our mini-split heat pump air conditioner wasn't really working. Nothing worse during a good old fashioned summer heat wave than to have guests and we can't keep the place below 80 degrees. So we had a guy out who recharged the system and it was like night and day. I can't say enough about those heat pump systems; they're amazing.
We just celebrated Chip's tenth birthday! Hopefully he has many years left and it certainly seems like he's keeping up with Scarlett. Although they're not yet best friends, I think they're getting closer. Scarlett certainly likes being around him although she's still a little too rough with him. Chip is a solitary dog and typically likes to just sleep somewhere soft so when Scarlett comes by, he usually grumbles and leaves before she stars messing with him. It's rather comical. For a treat, we gave him homemade ice cream! Yeah, he's doing okay.
Welp, it really does seem like every month, I talk about my job situation. For another month, nothing's really changed: No new leads within the company and although people are asking for my help here and there, it's not translating into actual leads. It's kind of depressing. And now that I've been in this role for nearly eleven months, I'm wondering if people are beginning to think that I should be some kind of master of everything by now. But I've got my management routinely telling me not to do more than the role requires and I think that frustrates the people I support. They're wanting me to be this superhero but all I'm supposed to do is connect issues to the real superheroes who fix the issues they bring up. I'm just an operator. A middleman. And yea, I think that disappoints people. I cannot wait to get back to a creative programming role where I'm not responsible to impatient people outside of my department who want to simply demand things of me. Can't wait.
