New Apartment / Nicole's Family in Portland

So it's been a few weeks since the move to our new apartment and things are good. The move itself was pretty smooth. We had some help and managed to do everything in only a couple days. The new apartment itself isn't bad. It's an adjustment to get used to a tiny bathroom and that we get the afternoon sun which really heats this place up. The carpets seem new and the office staff have been great, so it's okay so far. We had a pretty crazy fiasco getting Frontier to come out and hook up our Internet service. Seems the previous tenant in this apartment had Frontier service too and left a balance, so they initially weren't going to hook us up until we proved that we were new tenants by faxing in all this sensitive documentation at our cost and peril. I blew a gasket on the phone (I was under a lot of stress from the move) and told Frontier off for selling us a package and then treating me like a criminal after the fact. Once I brought out the big guns and told them to straight up cancel everything so we could sign up with their competition, they relented and made an exception for us. We're enjoying the Internet connection right now and it's pretty great.

It's hard to find time to really unpack and settle in when I work and we're in a pretty rough summer heat wave. For the forseeable future, temperatures will be above 90 degrees here. It was so bad that we actually knuckled down and bought one of those portable air conditioners. It's pretty sweet. Yeaaaa, we're doing well so far. Once we really get settled in and comfortable, I'm sure I'll bust out photos of the place. Until then, it's still an adjustment period for us.

In other news, Nicole's parents and her little brother are in Portland for the weekend on a surprise road trip to see us. The brother, Patrick, will be staying with us while Nicole's parents have a hotel. Since I'll be working, I won't have much visit-time, but that's life. It's going to be a strange weekend having her parents around again. I haven't seen them since May of 2013 and Nicole just got done visiting them in June during a trip that didn't go very well. This is going to be an epically awkward and bizarre weekend.
