I hope everyone had a good September 17th! It was a special day. It was the 150th anniversary of the
bloodiest battle in American history, the Battle of Antietam. Yesterday was also the 10th birthday for the
Roomba. And don't forget that the 17th also marked exactly one year of the
Occupy Wall Street movement being in existence.
Ohh yea and I turned 31.
So here I am at thirty-one. I'm thirty-one now.
I feel young. That's all. I don't feel 31; I feel 25. I act 25. I look 25. I'm going to continue to be this person who feels, acts, and looks 25 for as long as I'm feeling so. I don't see much changing anytime soon. Two years ago
when I turned 29, I said, "...I'm actually fairly happy, optimistic[,] and comfortable. I don't know why. Maybe it has to do with my friends!"
That is still true. My 30th birthday came and went with zero fanfare and I expected the same yesterday but to my surprise, I was inundated this year with well wishing. Thank you all! And holy crap,
Cooke Butter? I never knew this stuff existed! You guys kill me! Time to attack some pancakes with this gooey nonsense...
Having a birthday is fun and all, but I've got bigger news. On the 16th, Nicole and I went on an adventure. With her new job really gearing up, our time together is being limited. Which is a good thing! Everyone agrees that-so early in our friendship-it would be a bad idea to get too saturated with each other's company. Anyway, we took a night and we went on a date. A real romantic date; our first in months. A special Italian dinner out was followed by a journey into the dark. We hopped into my adorable little Geo and had a miniature all-night road trip; driving more or less aimlessly in a giant 70-mile circle of
the valley. Nicole may have been living here for about four years, but she's never really seen just how scenic the hills and backroads are right outside our door. The stars shone, the warm wind sailed around the car, the lights of the cities below twinkled, and somewhere along the way Nicole asked me to be hers...
So it's official! We're officially a couple! I'm excited! Are you excited? 'Cuz I'm excited. Best birthday ever! She surprised me with cheesecake last night. Some of you know what cheesecake does to me... Yea, I've got a keeper.
In the end, I sure don't feel older. I don't even really feel old at all. I feel like I'm at the beginning of so many things and at the middle or end of nothing. It's a good place to be and an even better place to be with someone new and wonderful and special. Bring on the rest of my thirties. I can take it.
