Val and Franko have weekend-game season tickets for
Portland's Blazers NBA basketball team. This last weekend, Val didn't want to go to the Dallas game so I went in her place. It's always nice to see a major sports event- I love the crowds and the energy and the noise. It's always a blast. Towards the end of the game, a couple arena staffers with portable CCTV cameras appeared right next to us and began filming the group behind us (We figure they must have been special as they all had those air-bopper things and were densely packed). Sure enough, a few people in front of us then began going wild for the camera as the image appeared on the big gigantic monitors above the court. I caught a glance at the monitor quickly and there, in the corner of the screen, was my ugly mug. Ooof. My first reaction was, "Am I really that pale white? I need to shave!" But then I realized I was actually on the monitor (For once). It was pretty wild. What was even better was the Blazers won the game by 10-some-odd points. We were expected to loose as the Dallas team was on fire, only losing one game before meeting us. Go Blazers!
The very next day I came down with a cold. All this cold weather and depressing sunsets-at-4-PM nonsense ain't helping. I've been loopy ever since and I'm still trying to shake this illness. Thankfully my fever is gone and it's now just uncomfortable waves of snot coupled with a sore throat. I can't remember the last time I've been sick. I'm not saying that to be snarkey or self-reightous; I actually can't think of a time in the last year I've been sick. It's been at least one year. I've been pretty lucky! I think I'll be outta this funk by tomorrow or Thursday.
Black Friday is 9 days away. I've been researching the
leaked retailer newspaper ads with my friends and, sadly, no sales are really speaking to me like last year's did. There's really just nothing to get excited about so I may not even wait in the lines overnight like I did in previous years. It's all in good fun to wait 12 hours in a line on the busiest shopping day of the year, but I need a better reason than to just do it- I need the ultimate deal worth waiting in the cold over.
Last year it was a camcorder and a monitor.
The year before it was a 200 GB hard drive for $30 (Which, even by today's standards is still a steal) and a projector for the parents. This year? Nothing looks interesting. Maybe a 2 GB flash drive for $7. Man, how pathetic is that? When the most interesting toy I can find to buy is a friggin flash drive. Ohh well, it's not like I can afford anything anyway. It's going to be a tight holiday this year...
