College Mini-Reunion

Mar 30, 2005 23:13

Wow! What a night! My roommate from college, (The Other) Adam, called me up earlier and said that another friend from college, Stephanie, was in town and this was her last night before trucking back to La Grande on the east side of Oregon. Quickly, Adam and I setup a plan to get together with our other local college buddies Matt and Cassandra for a mini reunion of sorts in downtown Portland at the hotel Steph was at. Well, what can I say, it went off without a hitch! The five of us got to see each other again and, even though it's been 9 months since we've all been in the same place at once, it seemed like no time had passed. Everyone looked the same but we all spoke new languages. The languages of the working class. We all had stories about our various jobs and life after college. We had dinner and caught up as best as we could before we all called it a night. It was quite the night! Every time I talk to the other Adam about the dream we have of starting up our own video/computer game company, I get real excited. It could happen one day.

I'm feeling better about things now. I needed that escape. To be with true friends again. I've been in a real funk the last week and it's giving me anxiety. To have this miniature vacation was wonderful. The funk stems from the fact that I hate my job, but only because it's so far from what I want to spend the rest of my life doing that it's boring. I'd rather quit and move to a commune to teach origami at this point. But then I'd have to grow my own food and I'm no farmer. The job is a total dead end. There's nowhere to go within the business for someone like me and the reference is about the only thing that will look good added to my resume after this. What makes my job worse is that everyone who doesn't have to tell me what to do ignores me like I were some piece of office furniture. I can't blame them at all though, they have jobs to do and I'm only a temp.

I wish there were more people my age too, I seem to have been flung into a world of people double my age. It's like working in the board room of some corporate palace and I'm the guy in the back of the room serving water. Thank GOD we're almost done. Within the next week, Bryan and I should be done with billing's records, which is a huge milestone. Then we'll have to do Echo, the department next door's, records, but that should be easier. I think. Or at least faster.

I don't mean to be so down about my life now, I do enjoy the stability of being somewhere for a few hours everyday then being able to leave and not have to work on work after I've left work. Know what I mean? I hated that about college. That's probably what I like most about my job, that and the money I'm raking in.
