#055 - Jealous

This pretty much immediately follows Envious.

Jealous

Free could tell Edward was in a foul mood the second he got home.

Edward was not in the habit of slamming doors, unless, of course, he was particularly annoyed by something.

Apparently, breakfast at IHOP had that effect on him.

Free waited. Edward flopped unceremoniously on the sofa, dragging a hand through his perfectly groomed bangs. Free marked the page in his book -

“I just don’t get it, Free.”

- and set it aside, dark gaze turning towards the blond’s face. “What is it that you do not understand, Edward?”

“I don’t understand how he’s so okay with it!”

Free blinked, taking in the other man’s slumped posture, folded arms and annoyed expression. Inwardly, he chuckled. Edward looked like a school boy who’d just received a scolding. “I am afraid you will have to be a bit more specific.” He said calmly, even though he knew exactly what his friend was talking about.

“Waspinator!” Edward all but spat the name out, “Inferno treats him like crap and he puts up with it for nothing. He knows Inferno doesn’t love him; won’t, can’t! And he doesn’t care.”

“And this bothers you because you see yourself in that situation and you can’t stand it.” Free nodded decisively, “Perhaps you were looking for some one to commiserate with in the wrong place.”

“It just…doesn’t make sense.” Edward muttered.

“Perhaps love is not as important to their species as other things.” The larger man offered not-so-helpfully, propping his chin on his hand as he gazed at his friend.

“Or perhaps he’s an idiot.” Edward snorted derisively, tossing his hair out of his face. Free gave him a withering look and he sighed; there was no good in acting like a child. “…No, that’s not fair of me. I know he’s not as stupid as he seems. But he’s being so dumb about this. Inferno doesn’t deserve him.”

“And Erich does not deserve you.” It was on the tip of Free’s tongue, but he wisely kept the words in. Edward wouldn’t have appreciated, though Free was certain he was only involving himself in this so much because the bugs’ relationships problems reminded him of his own. “Perhaps it really does not bother him as much as you believe it should. Perhaps it is enough that he and Inferno trust one another; that they are together.”

Edward sighed again and Free looked at him knowingly. He was well aware that his friend wished he didn’t love Erich so much; that he could simply turn it off. He knew Edward’s selfish reasons for getting himself tangled in the Predacons’ great love affair, but it surprised him to see just how jealous of the little green bug Edward was.
