I don't recall having seen Time Monster, but I seriously approve, both of this quote and the philosophy.

HERETIC. That's one of the reasons why I love that serial so much. Barry Letts always put Buddhist stuff like that in, which is why I have a really soft spot for his era ( ... )

I agree about the charismatic and inspiring. He clearly can manage an awful lot, given he got the new series green-lit when no one else could. But I was always irritated with his attempt to artificially build his own cult-of-personality, as he clearly thought Joss Wheedon had done (and it came through loud and clear from his book that it was Joss he was modelling himself on). You can't just force that to come about. Either you got it or you don't. And RTD don't.
