Finnish Hockey Players are the Best

May 18, 2011 11:06

So, anyone who knows me knows that I'm a little crazy about Finnish hockey players.  Especially Finnish goalies.  It is becoming more and more clear to me that I am incapable of cheering against a team that has a Finnish goalie, UNLESS the team I'm supposed to cheer for ALSO has a Finnish goalie. This has made the playoffs rather interesting, since all of my promises to cheer for the Canucks inevitably get thrown aside once I discover that the opposing team has a Finnish goalie.  Nashville. San Jose. Gosh darn it, I'm a sucker for those Finnish goalies.

Fortunately, the Wild have Backstrom for at least another four years, and hopefully by then the backup goalie will also be Finnish. It helps that Finnish goalies are generally awesome at what they do. :)

Anyway, though, with my love of Finnish hockey players, I'm fortunate that the Wild have a bunch - Mikko Koivu, Antti Miettinen, Backstrom of course, plus four more that haven't joined the team yet.... including this guy:

Seriously, I know that Mikael Granlund will probably never pull off that move again in his entire career, but that was AMAZING.  It'll be interesting to see what happens with him next year - he's still only 19, so he's probably got a few years left in development, but his performance at the Worlds was impressive enough that the Wild might try to get him to come over for next season.  If so, I hope we get a lot more photos like this one in the future.

AWWWWWW! It's Mikko Koivu and Mikael Granlund kissing their World Championship trophy!

*coughs* Right.

I will admit it.  This entire post was just an excuse to post that last picture.
