Real Fortunes

Most fortune cookies contain fortunes that are either impossibly vague, or just boring. There's a faux-Japanese restaurant in my area (run by Chinese people... naturally!) that has a giant bin of free fortune cookies. The fortunes contained within these cookies are... a little different from what you get at most places. Here's a sample of real fortunes we've gotten over the past several months:

Today, put away the diplomat to protect your own interests. (Be selfish and avoid compromise?)

Today's a day to nourish yourself. Feed yourself well. (Well... hard to argue with that!)

Just believe it. Water and oil cannot be mixed. (Cooking advice or metaphor about personality differences?)

Clear your mental, emotional and psychic space and you'll see. (This is vague in a way that I find thought-provoking somehow.)

Impossible standards just make life difficult. (Sure, but so do no standards...)

Avoid the opposite sex today. Yeah, right!

Eat your vegetable and you'll grow up big and strong like Popeye. (Somehow I don't think Popeye got big by eating corn or green beans though.)
