The winter storm that was not

Jan 17, 2008 12:33

As usual, the first sign of any snow or nasty winter weather to hit our area is greeted with panic and everlasting news coverage. What happened? Rain. Cold rain. Actually, I did get up at 0500 to peek out the window and noticed light snow coming down, but it was still 38°F and pretty much gave up then this would not amount to anything.

When the radio came on, it was confirmed, it was just rain. All of the schools were opened, but nearly all of them delayed opening for 2 hours in anticipation of the big event. This actually made the roads less congested which was nice. This is just a classic scenario for central NC (always within a few degrees).

Just walked to lunch and back and I'm chilled to the bone. I was bundled up, but that cold rain with a firm breeze blowing at 34°F just slices right through you. Note to self: bring your damn lunch on rainy days.

At least we are getting some rain. I've got 0.37" on the rain gauge (not the 1-2" they were predicting).
