happy thoughts

Happy thoughts in my life right now:

Puppies!
Dottie's puppies are 3 weeks old now, and it is honestly the cutest age. They're just beginning to walk around on their fat little legs, playing with each other, making little tribble noises, barking and yapping at strange noises, and trying to nurse on your ears and fingers. And of course, they do the neck thing. The 'neck thing' is when you pet or scratch the puppies on the neck, and they twist their head away or yelp at you in irritation. As far as it's been explained to me, it's a reflex puppies have from infancy: their mother picks them up by the scruff of the neck to transport them or reprimand them. Puppies associate touching the neck with dominant behavior. Usually, they get over it by 6-8 weeks, as they learn that they are not the head of the pack.
Kode had her puppies a week early, and I've taken to calling them the Preemie puppies. They're very tiny, and I could fit two in my hand. They have bright pink noses, narrow faces, and bright pink ears and feet! They have no hair on their little feet, being early babies. But Mom double checked with the vet, and he said it will grow in as they develop. There are six of them, too! Kode looked like a football before they were born. :P

Dog-sitting in Lake Oswego!
I'm currently in Lake Oswego, dog-sitting while my aunt and uncle are away on a much-needed week long vacation to Sun Valley. This means I get to chill in their fabulous lake house, watching over too Iggys and one Mini Dachsund. The Iggys are spoiled, but at least Belle, the Dachsund, is a sweet, lovable dog who adores me and begs for food very prettily. She also chases my socks, whether they're on my feet or not. Adorable! :)

The dog-sitting means I'll be on the Internet more often, since I'll have more free time than usual to just chill out. The water level at the lake is pretty high, since all of that snow we had melted very quickly. The fields out by my mom's farm look like rice paddies in spring, flooded over to reflect the sky above. Later all!
