Ingredients for a perfect afternoon:

A long walk over the hills and through the woods.
Fresh blackberries ready to be plucked from the bushes lining the trail.
Cold plums hanging from the trees by the edge of the high pasture.
A cool breeze ruffling the leaves in the trees, supporting the hawks soaring overhead.
Faithful canine companion gamboling around your legs and nuzzling your hands.
A breathtaking view of rolling vineyards and wheat fields with Mt. Hood on the horizon.

Mix with a dash of adventure, a hint of meditation, and a healthy dollop of inner peace. Bake under a warm sun, with a few fluffy white clouds sprinkled on for good measure.

Exploring the trails on my recent hikes, I almost expect to find a totoro around the next bend or under one of a thousand blackberry bushes. I've already found another farm, a wooden cross with holy water and ladle, an abandoned water cistern, a number of crabapple trees, a small shrine, and a number of signs and trail markers. There has been evidence of bears, coyotes, deer, hawks, turkey vultures, and woodpeckers - either through sight, sound, tracks in the mud, or droppings on the trail.
Not to mention that the exercise has kept my spirits up. Go endorphins! ;)

It also makes me wonder. How can people just work out in a gym for exercise? It seems to pale in comparison with exploring the woods. There's nothing new to see or explore in a gym, no cool breeze to motivate you to keep pushing up that steep hill, no panoramic view to reward you when you reach your goal!
