I plan on passing this basic skills test on Friday. Even if I don’t want to sub it would be good experience and mean I can pay of loans and have some spending money. It won’t be a fantastic sum. It will probably be very trying, but the experience will be well worth it. One of my friends started subbing. She said it was hard! She said she wasn’t sure how well she did and that she had to turn some jobs down. On the other hand, she sounded so happy and excited. I want to share that joy too. I know she’ll be fantastic! I respect her ability to get out and try. I need to do that too. In part, because I have two teachers who keep telling me that I should. I love my mentors; they’re way too good to me! I’ll need to see exactly what I need to sub, I have a feeling an additional charge for fingerprint clearing is going to be necessary.

Here’s the breakdown I’ve decided:

Pros
Cons

  1. Spending money
  2. Work experience
  3. Networking
  4. Familiarity with different grade levels
  5. Taking the exams and doing clearance now means less I have to do later.
  6. If I do it now, then when I finish my student teaching I’ll have “something to fall back on”.
  7. I can choose when I sub.
  8. Might be able to use some subbing for practicum.

  1. Schedule already lacks balance, would add strain.
  2. Subbing is for grades K-12.
  3. I don’t really want too.
  4. Can only sub for 30 days for any one teacher unless special requirements are met or hoops jumped through.
  5. More paperwork to fill out.
  6. More fees to be able to sub.

The fairest has been " target="_blank">chosen.
