Whaaaa?
We started doing the benchmarks for the kindergartners on Friday. BOO. But, I think that they’re going to do their best and I’ll be happy to see how hard they’re working! One of our questions has a donut, says so, and then asks the students to find the first sound. Then it lists “a, s, r” for the beginning sound of donut. We had them cross it out - everyone gets it right.
Next week, we’ll be making mother’s day gifts (flower pens). Actually, I’ll see if I can make one for my mom too, because, well I’ll be helping with them so much anyways. Basically we just need the kids to make the pen look like flower stems, so I’ll be working on that. I’ll also be doing reading with the EL group and seeing how to complete a lesson plan for my hours there. HAH. I think that the reading with the EL group will be good enough, because, there are several different proficiency levels in that group (versus the others).
We did have a great time with math center on Friday though! We only got one side of the paper completed, but everyone completed it! They worked really hard to make a rectangle too. They did fantastically.
I’m just going to finish out the school year, since the last day of school is May 30th. It’ll be easier to just go to the end of the year (plus my current mentor and class are awesome). If I’m lucky, I might even be able to schedule practicum hours for the last week of school. And that would be really helpful! It’s hard to schedule practicum during the summer when schools are out. My teacher advisor is out until the 8th though, so I’m not sure what to do but wait for her. I did email her about it though.
I had a lesson plan made for 1st grade for my project a couple of weeks ago. And I’m supposed to use it for my practicum. I ended up in the kindergarten classroom, so I need to modify the lesson a great deal. It might be easier to write an all new lesson plan!
I have my initial discussions complete! And I have a ton of responses complete, so I should be good for participation. I need to complete my individual project, which I’m going to do tomorrow. My schedule has been a little wonky since I’m at the school most of the day now. And most of my group project is complete, just waiting on revisions and people getting back to me. Hopefully we’ll have this done by Monday like I’d like!
