Got three and a half hours of my practicum completed! Yes! That’s a pretty good start for the first day. I’ll work slowly on the one-on-one tutoring. It’s hard to tutor k-kids because they have very short attention spans. I’m hoping to work with one little girl in particular since her native language is Japanese (I bet her Japanese is much better than mine!)! But it will be easier if she gets stuck and we can more readily reach common ground. Plus my mentor made it a point to introduce us specifically and to tell me that she was an EL student when she found out that I took Japanese. I had to admit, though, that my Japanese is a little rusty and that I bet the student’s is better than mine! Still, it made me really happy.

I’m going to go in all day tomorrow. I really like being in the kindergarten classroom! The kids have great energy and my new mentor is great too. I’m thinking about volunteering every Wednesday since it’s my day off! That would be great fun, I think. It would also help with networking.

From what I understand I just need a bachelor’s and the CBEST to sub. I’m already halfway there! I need to see if I can take the CBEST in town, if I can that would be so much easier. I’ll work on it after I take the CSET on Wednesday. If I can get subbing it would help with job experience and networking. Which might make scheduling practicum much easier. I just need to call the school district to confirm what I need. I think I might also need a fingerprint clearance for California (I have one for Arizona).

Anyways, the kindergarten was fantastic. The kids are so much more trusting. On my way out of the classroom today I got a bunch of hugs. I like younger kids, they’re honest. They were so surprised when I addressed them by name! Silly! I only knew their names because I read them from the assignments they brought me. I asked one little boy if I could have his name and he smiled and said, “Nope! I didn’t write it!” And then he wouldn’t tell me it (so I’m going to have to hunt it down). He was quite pleased with himself. I thanked one little girl for writing her name on her paper for me. The kids that heard me thank her then wrote down their names on their work really quickly (it made me chuckle). Over all I had a very good day and I’m not nearly as drained as I am working with older kids.

I had both Kindergarten teachers tell me that I was welcome in their classrooms as much as I wanted to be there. Apparently they both know my nana (my mentor, in fact, did her student teaching with her). My nana used to teach 1st grade and she’s apparently a really good teacher! So hopefully, I’m not being judged against her. Haha, but it makes me happy that people were so excited about her!

My internet is currently not working, so that’s butts! However, I suppose that’s not a huge issue since I have most everything I need done online completed. Mostly, I need to post of up some group work, but if I can’t connect, I can’t connect. There’s always tomorrow morning!

I was going to use some time today to get ahead in my other project for next week. However, I’m really confused about what is expected of me. So I have to ask a bunch of questions, but the answers are just making it worse. Without the internet, I can’t check on that, so looks like I’ll just enjoy the rest of the afternoon. I think I have enough discussion response, but I’ll do some tomorrow morning just to be safe too.

Got up early. I must really enjoy the kindergarten! HAH. My mentor has good energy and the kids are fantastic. (Did I say that already?) On the down side, I did have to make my own lunch since I ended up on lunch duty for this morning. So I made my lunch. It’s not so bad. I’m thinking that I’ll go all day as much as I can. The more hours the better. So lunch is at 10:45. It’s great because I get some time to talk to my mentor - ask questions, get feedback, etc.

Get up at 2:15 AM, get showered, and head out at 3. Get to testing area at 5:30 can’t get registered until 7:15, finally get in to test at 8:20. Finish at 10:24ish, feeling fairly good. Did my best! There were several essay questions I couldn’t answer (I have little to no background in chemistry and geometry; UGH). I feel like I answered the multiple choice questions much better this time and I did answer ONE of the math essay questions. And I’m pretty confident that I did it correctly! I’m not worried about my results! (Generally they say if you’re worried it means you did badly. It’s a sort of trust your instincts thing.) But the problem with that is that I always feel assured that my best is fantastic!

Finished Terra’s story! Oh, Terra! Why?! But having fun with BBS. I love the characters so far and I’m really excited to have a Terra site in the plans. It’ll be fun to have super cool connections to Cherri’s ven site and Samantha’s Aqua site (I rarely get to do things like this!)! I’ve done it with Cherri and Mikari with Puella Magi Madoka Magica and I really enjoyed it. We’re trying to peer pressure Mikari into making an Axel site! But it’s hard to peer pressure Mikari because she doesn’t fold. Haha.

I think I want to monomyth Terra, although, I’m sure it would be much easier with Ven! (Also need to find the monomyth files to send to Cherri - I’ll do that this weekend!) I want to finish BBS before making my Terra site (which is still nameless). Ah, life! I feel like I have much to do.

I’m going to be volunteering at least one of my free days to the school. I think that’s going to help with getting hours in the future.

Going to the school today~ I’m excited I really like being over at the kindergarten. I’m still nervous about teaching. I don’t know how I’ll manage, but overall I enjoy it.

Group project is almost done! I’m so glad I’ve had the group working on it for weeks. We’re missing 200 words for the essay and a lesson plan. But another group member asked the teacher about our missing group member (which account for one lesson and 100 words) and we’re not required to write her part (thankfully). It means our unit will be incomplete, but the missing group member still has until the 6th to get everything in (due date is the 8th and I want things in before that since we have an individual project we need to do too).
