this article about bad career tips parents offer this morning, and lo and behold, number one is about graduate degrees. My parents never really said anything to me about getting a graduate degree, but other members of my family (won't name names here) definitely tried to push it on me. Personally, I didn't want to go that route because 1) I already have a shit load of loans to pay off and 2) a graduate degree for journalism? Would I really need that?
I just thought that was funny.
Now, onto those loans I have to pay off... it's worse than we thought. I knew paying off $90,000 was not going to be fun, but I did not know that the private loans I have would require me to pay $600 a month. That's basically what I pay in rent/bills right now. And no, there is no way around it. Apparently, if you are financially unable to pay off federal loans, you can lower your payments or even get a deferment. But for private loans, they really don't care. They just want the money back.
I heard a bunch of suits (I love saying that, I don't know why) talking about their loans on the train yesterday. They were all joking about how much money they owe, and one of them kept talking about how he could care less about paying the federal ones off because the private ones were so much. I empathize.
So, here's hoping I start making some real money soon. I definitely need it.
Oh, and remember how I only had $12 in my account? Well, it became -$42 because LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) took out thier money like a week after I thought they did.
And then I lost both of my debit cards. So, it's been a hell of a month so far.
PS: Special congratulations goes out to my girls Stephanie and Danielle who are graduating this weekend. Woo woo!
