Today started out as not such a good day...I have a horrible cold, and I'm just groggy and irritable. Needless to say, once my seventh hour started talking, I started handing out detentions.

I gave detention to one girl who is notorious. She totally rubs me the wrong way, she talks allll the time in my class. I was ready to nip this one in the bud.

It actually turned out amazingly well. It turned into more of a conference with her than a detention, which is what I'd hoped the whole time. She even opened up, told me things "aren't so great" at home (which I'd suspected all along) and told me her friends are more like her family and so when she sees them she'd rather be with them than listening in class. We also agreed that when she's in class she needs to be "there", and she got to vent some of her frustration. I feel like we really came away with a mutual understanding and respect for each other.

It was a nice end to a "bad" day :)
