It's a long-distance diagnosis on House.
I thought this was a very good episode. You had an exotic setting, a patient who served as an admirable foil for Dr. House and a twist at the end that I, against all odds, managed to insulate myself from even though it has been nearly two weeks since the episode aired. The stuff with Dr. Cameron came off as pretty disposable, but even it bore fruit at the end.
I like it when the writers contrive to limit the ability of the doctors to run tests. You get to tell stories that would have been solved really fast in a typical setting. And I like the alternative thinking that the doctors must undertake.
It was fun watching House and the patient duel. He doesn't run up against a lot of people who can parry his thrusts. I kind of felt bad for House when it was revealed that the guy down at the South Pole with her was in love with her.
How did I manage to preserve the surprise of Amber being Dr. Wilson's new squeeze? In the course of my Internet surfing, I trip over spoilers all the time. I even knew that Cutthroat Bitch was coming back, although I assumed it was because she brought an interesting case to the hospital or something. It was nice to be able to be surprised. I was actually considering the possibility that Wilson had begun dating the hospital's head nurse, although Amber was in the mix for me as well.
The only part of Cameron's storyline that I liked was when Dr. Kutner went totally over the top in standing up to House. He had a priceless look of unsure defiance on his face. Otherwise, waiting for House's inevitable victory was not particularly interesting. And the storyline didn't do anything to make me feel like Cameron needs to be on the show anymore. She just happened to be on some committee that has control over the hospital's cable TV? How many other committees will the writers stick her on simply to give them a reason to include her in episodes?
"Let's Get It On" was an excellent choice of music. Very funny.
I couldn't help but think about The Empire Strikes Back in the opening sequence. It was as though they were on Hoth.
We all got the significance of House's observation about television on Tuesdays, right? Ironically, this particular episode was not actually shown on a Tuesday.
Although I wouldn't say that writing reviews this late is the optimum way to go, at least the irritation of the Patriots' Super Bowl loss wasn't clouding my brain as I watched the episode.
