In light of yesterday's verdict and the outrage that ensued, I think it's a good idea for everyone to take a step back and ask themselves why child abuse / neglect has become a crime that can be so blatantly ignored. I tossed and turned all night thinking about the beautiful little girl that was thrown away like someone's garbage. No child deserves that, ever. It seems that much of the world has forgotten that children are human beings too. Just because they cannot vote yet, it doesn't make them any less deserving of certain inalienable rights. What kind of monster can look in the eyes of a child that offers unconditional love and return anything but the same?
Every day children are ignored, beaten, raped, left to fend for themselves, and sometimes much worse. When are we, as a nation, going to stand up and say, "ENOUGH"? I urge everyone to use this outrageous injustice as a learning tool. Maybe Kaylee can have some justice if we all use our outrage to drive us to bring awareness to the child abuse epidemic that seems to be taking over. Let's take this time to get involved in preventing it, and hopefully creating a better future for out little angels.
If you have kids of your own, please remember to hug them and tell them how much you love them every opportunity you get. Never take them for granted. If nothing else, I've learned that much from little Kaylee. Also, there are organizations dedicated to ending child abuse that so often go overlooked. I challenge everyone to get involved in any way that they can to support these organizations. If you can't donate your time or financially then spread the word about them and bring awareness to the cause.
Here's one that I came across last night:
http://www.preventchildabuse.org/index.shtml I think it's time to take a stand for our little ones. What kind of future will there be if we don't?
