eHarmony.com - recommendation

OK, I am not a big believer in the merits of searching for the love of one's life on-line -- despite the fact that a close friend from college is marrying someone she met just that way in August -- but I'm putting in a plug here. You've probably seen the ads on TV -- grandfatherly/preacher type talking about finding your soul mate. Checked it out for fun, and just signed up.

It's actually kind of cool. You fill out a long (reaallllllly long) questionnaire on everything from your religious beliefs, sexual likes and dislikes and your relationships with your family to how organized you are and personality quirks you can't stand in people you date. Then eHarmony does all the work; you don't even *get* to do the searching. They identify people who match you on your personality profile, "Must Haves"/"Can't Stands", etc., and heavily structure your initial contact with them, so that you can really feel comfortable before going for open access to them.

Now it is *considerably* more expensive than your average on-line dating service (about $250 for the year), but it also offers more. And no, they're not paying me to say that :). Personally, I think of it as a much more sophisticated vetting process. I say that *now*; we'll have to see how it works out. Stay tuned to the continuing saga....
