Life and stuff

So, has been a little while since I updated properly, so this will again be a lengthy post. All I can do is apologise in advance.

Work’s been pretty cool recently - or at least, it’s not sucked completely. Most exciting story is probably the conversation I had with Andy on Saturday when we were both on. Basically, he was whistling the Band Aid tune, and he asked if Busted were on it. So I told him they were - apparently a little too enthusiastically but hey, it’s Busted and he knows what I’m like - and then a little later he was like, “I’ve got that in my head now; it’s Busted’s fault” - completely to wind me up. He also inadvertently came up with the opposite phrase for “It’s all Pixie” which is “It’s all poxy.”

Other “excitement” was the close on Friday. Basically after about 8pm it goes really quiet - why we open til 10pm I don’t know - and so we all struggle to find stuff to do. And it didn’t help that we hadn’t had the delivery we were supposed to, cos that was one less option for us. And the porter packers were the same - at one point myself and Diane (who’s normally on checkouts, but was on the kiosk that afternoon) ended up having this thing with Ian and Andy (another one) over baskets - cos they come to take any baskets we have from behind the kiosk, only with no customers they were thin on the ground.

In other news, work has finally started on my room, the new window’s in and I have a paint colour to go on the walls. I have a design scheme in mind (damn UKTV Bright Ideas!) which will basically be purple and silver. So the mirror that we brought back from Ammanford, which is currently black, is gonna get sprayed silver to fit in with said scheme.

Missed the Smash Hits Poll Winner’s party because of work - and my plot to tape it didn’t work - cos I thought by putting it on the timer, it would automatically tape as long as the TV was on, but it didn’t work. So Dad’s taping it from S4C on Saturday - because of course I won’t be in for that either, I’ll be on a coach back from Sunderland.

Speaking of - THREE DAYS TO GO! I cannot wait, I pity the people working with me tomorrow because I’m just gonna be squeeing over the fact that I’ll be travelling up the next day.

My Evanescence CD/DVD set came today - I’m well impressed because even with postage, it cost less than Woolies are selling it for - they’re selling for £13.99 and mine with postage came to something like £13.39 *loves HMV website*

Finally, a few thoughts on the new Band Aid song, because I can. Basically, a lot of the artists aren’t to my taste. Individually, the only acts that would guarantee interest would be Busted and the Sugababes. But, as my mum and I were saying the other day, Band Aid 20 is representative of today’s music scene. Sure, there will be acts that people don’t like on there, and some might argue that the rapping ‘ruins’ the thing - but that same rap could well sell it to someone who doesn’t like many of the other artists. Everything is covered - be it the Darkness, Dido or Dizzee Rascal, there’s something for everyone, from pretty much every genre.

And much props for giving Bono his line from the original - I am aware that the “squabble” over it detracts somewhat from the spirit of togetherness, and that Bob Geldof would have been perfectly justified in giving the line to someone who didn’t ask for it. And granted, Bono didn’t even like the line in the first place. However, to many people, it’s not about the line - it’s about the recognition that, 20 years on, Bono is still a presence on the music scene. If the Darkness can say that 20 years from now, maybe then Justin Hawkins can start throwing his weight around. But given the amount of singing he got to do anyway - especially compared to Busted’s one line, or to people like the Beddingfields, Katie Melua and Rachel Stevens, who didn’t get their own lines at all - what the hell was he whining at?!
